So I was given a 2005 prius that was running fine. It just needed a few new battery cells. I replaced them but then the 12v was dead. So I replaced that. Then when I tried to breathe life into the car I got BUBKUS, NADA, ZIP...DEAD AS A DOORNAIL. It won't even turn on. I have no idea what I did wrong. The batteries are both good...the orange 'battery key' or shit off is in place and still nothing. I have another 2005 that runs great. I figured at least I could use the dead one for parts. Is there anything in the manual about this kind of issue?

I thought maybe the gas went bad while it has been sitting. Would siphoning the gas out help?

    Lost.

How do you know the batteries are good? What is the voltage at the 12V battery and at the jump start post in the underhood fuse box? Do the headlights work?

Before you worry too much, a couple common things to check---verify that you have 12 volts at the underhood jump point to ensure the battery is actually getting power to the fuse box. If no 12v check the fusible link assembly on the (+) terminal and all the connections at the battery and ground wire. If you have power at the jump point, then make sure the AM2 fuse isn't blown, as that fuse will pretty much kill the car.

I'm confused. Post 1 states the car is completely dead, post 5 says it turned on with the RTOD present. Two totally different scenarios for troubleshooting. Can you clarify?
