I have owned a 2005 Prius since it was 3 miles old. Going to give to my son soon. Purchased a 2009 Prius for me, and the 6-CD- player does not work. Toyota dealership told me I need a new CD player for the head unit. Would it be possible to switch out the CD player from the head unit in the '05, to the '09? My son doesn't care about CDs, but I still listen to them on occasion. And please don't tell me to move into MP3 or whatever. I like my CDs! LOL
    Thanks,

Car-part.com search for 6 cd 2009 Prius shows compatible interchange is 2006-2009. Ebay listings also show 2006-09, couple listings show 2004-09 but I'd lean towards 2006-09. $40-50 on Ebay

You probably can't just switch them out. Usually when you have a 6 CD changer, you also have the JBL amp. Different system and plugs. You can get your CD player rebuilt by sending it off somewhere, but junkyard or ebay are the other options. Dealer wants like $1200 for a brand new unit. Outrageous. You could also install and aftermarket CD player. I did that when I had my '05. Just get a good brand like Pioneer if you go that route. Trust me, I learned my lesson on going with a cheaper brand like Boss Audio. You get what you pay for.

You cannot just switch them out when you pull the mess out and look at all the plugs you will see immediately what is the problem I don't think you'll want to be cutting and hacking and splicing because I still don't think it'll be correct if you wanted to spend a lot of time with it yeah you could force it to work you would get it eventually but is that worth your trouble some people here may have done it and can shoot you some pictures in my 05 I have a Clarion 7-in screen stupid whatever weird radio thingy with all kinds of nonsense on it matter of fact I don't think I've turned it on since I've owned the car but it works if you'd like it you're welcome to it it's sitting in an '05 in perfect condition with a clean screen and all of it it does not take six discs though but it does everything else seemingly perfectly I believe it's a Clarion 7-in screen something another with a remote I have it all Good luck

Yes, lots of both versions, helps to be aware that OP is interested in a 6 cd version. (y)
