I have a 2005 Toyota Prius. I measured the voltage underneath the hood from the fuse box terminal and its reading 12 volts. I put the key into the slot and push the power button and nothing happens. There is a light with the red car shaped icon with a key blinking.

Any ideas what this might be? The car doesn't start or run because the power button doesn't do anything.

    welcome!
12 volts is too low. a new battery is 13. how old is it? you can try charging, but if it's more than 5 or 6 years, i would replace it.

    you need a new battery.

i've asked the mods to delete one of your threads, two are not necessary.

I've also hooked up jumper cables to the battery in the back and still nothing happened. Headlight shows to be very strong and bright.

When did this happen? Anything special leading up to this no start?

Ok. Never mind. The dash lights now turn back on as long as the key isn't in that slot to the right of the steering wheel.

The problem now is the gas engine doesn't start. In the display screen it shows the battery near dead but shouldn't the gas engine still start?

What did you touch while you were troubleshooting? Did you touch the orange plug on the HV battery?

two bars is okay, any lower and the hybrid battery won't turn the engine over.

If you can turn on accessory mode and ignition on mode, but not ready mode, then you should check the brake pedal switch.
Does the "READY" light on the dash light up?
