After all the brake lights on my '06 came on, and reading this forum led me to the Tech Bulletin and possible warranty repair on my 282,000 mile-old car, I went into my local Toyota Dealer. The 2 week ordeal went something like this:

    1. Day 2: You qualify for warranty replacement of your Brake Actuator assembly- Congratulations.
    2. Day 4: Part arrived, Installing.
    3. Day 6: Technician cannot figure out how to reprogram computer -- waiting on instructions.
    4. Day 7: You need to replace your 24 v battery, still under partial warranty from last replacement.
    5. Day 9: We don't know where the technician is for two days!
    5. Day 11: Still showing all brake codes and some additional ones. We're trying.
    6. Day 14: We're stymied. There's a short somewhere. We can't isolate it. Wanna try a new $6,000 engine wire harness? No? Then come get it off our lot. But you can't drive it off like you drove it on.

I drove it home. Brakes are, of course, horrible and erratic and so it sits like a doorstop.

My question is, does this sound reasonable? Can the Dealer REALLY not track down a short it would seem was created by the repair. Shall I just call NPR to drag it off and take the tax deduction? Or should I pursue another repair option?

Call NPR, since your car has very little market value and you probably don't want to spend four-digits on a repair effort that may or may not help.

Thanks! I figured that much since I'm in the tri state but wasn't sure with all the acronyms floating around.

You should at least get a refund on the new battery that they put in
