    Hello,

I have a 2006 Prius, It has 165k miles. Recently it gave me a code to replace hybrid battery pack, I read this code with my scanner from HF. I have changed out a battery pack with replacing the bad modules before so I am not a bigger with the system. I took out the pack and checked and it seemed like all the modules are in the 7.8 range. This was confusing since the code reader was saying to replace the battery pack. I put it all back in the car and tested it again and got the same results. It seems like the HV system is not being recharged any longer. It seemed odd, normally when I remove my foot from the gas the system shows the car regenerating power.. Now when I step on the brakes I only see that. The system does charge but randomly it will drop down where there are 1 to 2 bars left and then charge back up again.

So! just want to see if you guys/girls have any idea what could be causing this to happen? here are the codes I am getting.

    p0a80
c1310 malfunction in HV system (when i read about this people say this is a ghost code that comes up from the battery pack.. but maybe not in my case?)

I am using a harbor freight scanner ( that gives me the p0a80)
and also using a Autel MaxiDiag Elite (giving me the c1310)

    Thanks!

welcome! to find the bad cells, you need the mini vci w/ tech stream software and a laptop. they have to be tested while under load (driving).

how come for others that I did the same for the cell showed it was bad by being under 6.5?

Thanks for the info, there is no obd2 reader that can do that too?

    1) you had a really bad cell, now, they're just marginal.

    2) i don't think so.

The software comes with the Mini VCI cable. You can also find it on the web if you search around. I haven't needed to download it so I will leave it to you to decide what might be a good source and what might be full of viruses.

afaik, no one here has ever bought it separately. so, unfortunately, i think you're on your own, unless you buy the cable again. it might be worth the 25 bucks, if you can't figure it out.

i'm just guessing, but i think you have to get your pack balanced.

just odd that i have changed out cells before and never had this happen. how do you go about balancing the cells? do you recommend a charger that does that too?

If you use a Toyota website, clearly Toyota will charge you big $$$ for the software. However if you are doing this professionally, you should purchase and install the real software.

Otherwise, here is one possibility, you bear the risk if your laptop develops a mind of its own after you download and install this.

balancing the cells after replacing the bad ones is a tricky business. your best bet is to do some searching here, there are many threads on rebuilding batteries, with good advice, and pics. all the best.(y)

I would expect that as long as your BMW cable is a J2534 compliant VIM (as per Toyota EU) then it should work ok.

Did you install the TS v10.10.018 that you dowloaded?

If you have, make sure you select the BMW VIM from the setup menu in TS.
