Good afternoon - I have a 2006 Prius with 208,000 miles that has a very noisy valve train. I have checked the lifters gaps and all appear within tolerance. This noise has been present for the last 10,000 miles. I have an opportunity to purchase a 2004 Prius running intact with 122,000 miles that sounds marvelous. The price is $1,000. The work does not scare me as I have a home shop with a lift and have done similar work on conventional cars dozes of times. Can anyone tell me if this is a direct swap? Can I swap the whole unit intact from the 04 to the 06?

    Expertise will be greatly appreciated.

I think both engines are compatible with each other. They're both gen2 1NZ, or 2NZ engines, which should fit, without any modifications.

PS: You could also have taken pictures of the donor engine, and compare with your car, for any differences you might notice.
Once again, both engines would work fine.

$1k for a used Prius engine is about 3 TIMES more than retail. We can buy them all day in TX for $350 w/90 day warranty.
