2007 New Toyota Hybrid Battery - Self Install?

    It's slightly more complicated, but that's what attaches it together....3 nuts. Follow the wires to disconnect from your original pack.....then reverse order, reattach to new pack. It's really pretty simple. Just don't get electrocuted

    Oh I thought the special orange paint Dorman uses on the battery cover protected it against future failures.

    If you to pay for someone else to put it in, then better off going with new battery for long-term.

    It's more than 3 nuts, and there is definitely ways to do it wrong or make a mistake. I've watched guys make spark because they were working to fast or not paying attention. Torquing the bolts correctly is an easy error. You are working with high voltage that powers the car and a loose connection or over torqued connection are equally problematic.
    I had one last month from a dealer that did not have things torqued and it came loose taking out other electronics.
    Heck, some people don't even bother cleaning the fan (Not cleaning fan voids the warranty) when doing replacements for the "drop in" Dorman option. So it is easy to imagine people skipping steps on when doing a more-involved OEM replacement.
    Go slow. Work methodically. No reason to rush.

    Do the replacement batteries tend to come with an instruction sheet with torque values? Or is the onus on the installer to dig it up from the Repair Manual?

    Also, I assume you mean not cleaning the fan voids the warranty?

    The batteries do not come with an instruction sheet. Since they are mainly done by dealers, and the techs have to go through training, it is assumed that you have access to the Repair Manual.

    Installer must clean the fan or the warranty is voided.

    Just a quick update. I was able to buy a new Toyota battery from a dealer and installed it myself. I only had one dumb mistake which delayed finishing the install a little bit.

    All in all I am very happy with the battery. I will post some details and a couple of pictures in a new thread.

    The cover must be removed to do the parts swapping between the old and new HV batteries (with the G9510-47031 battery in the Gen2).

    Toyota has started selling remanufactured batteries with brand new modules that are drop in units. Those batteries have the -84 suffix that is used for all remanufactured components - like brake calipers, master cylinders, etc. Don't know when those will be available nationwide. They have been available in limited quantities on the left coast.

    I assume a dealer should make it clear it if is new or remanufactured.

    the 84. i'm trying to figure out why, when you buy a new battery, you need to remove the cover, and check the module date code numbers.

    This is the rare battery I referred to. This one you can install just like a Dorman. No parts swapping required.
    Maybe this is what fotomoto thought that gatorglenn bought. If so, I hope glenn will clue us in.

    Module date code numbers are peace of mind that you received fresh new modules. So, it would
    be essential to verify that the modules were indeed brand new when you bought the battery above.

    Someone on Priuschat supposedly bought the -84 battery but never followed up with more info.

    Supposedly less for the -84 than for the standard new one from what I vaguely recall the Priuschatter mentioning.
    There is a mystery what's actually inside the case - brand new modules or old ones. Toyota might have gotten
    into remanufacturing late in the game.

    I cannot find any details on my Google searches for the -84 battery. So does this battery really exist?
    Could be just an elaborate prank.

    So far it seems both examples of this 84 code battery has come out of San Diego dealership in California. It's not a joke, it's an actual part they are selling to customers for only a couple hundred less than New
