I'm at 138,000 miles on my Prius, just got oil changed, 12v replaced in 2014, water pump replaced in 2015. In May I got my priuschecked out at my dealer before my trip and everything was good! I've noticed over the past couple days the mpg has gone down from 39 to 36. Yesterday I was .25 away from my work at gas station and when I pulled out a red triangle w/ exclamation came up along with check engine, VSC and orange exclamation with circle around it. I drove to my work and it didn't seem like performance was different. When I got to work I turned it off and back on and all lights were still lit. After my shift I went to leave and it was same thing. When I went to reverse it felt like a tug, I pulled about half way out then pulled back in cause I didn't want to get stranded. My car is currently there until I know what to do with it, please help!! Thanks! Oh and I'm summoning Patrick Wong! I'm new to this site and couldn't figure out how to DM him but he seems like a genius! Thanks!

Welcome to PriusChat! You've certainly come to the best place to find out all you're ever likely to need to know about your Prius! You might find it useful to have the dealer (or someone with a reader) check the system for codes to establish what the system might be trying to tell you - could be anything from a failing Aux-Battery (12V) to a failing Traction-Battery ! Here's hoping for the best, and again Welcome to PriusChat!

It could be a brake actuator failure, but you would have to feel your brakes impaired

So if I tried to drive it around the parking lot and they kind of lock up? Also if it is the hv battery around how far do you think I could get it? The dealership my uncle works is about 7 miles away traveling interstate

If you can drive it without much issue, then driving 7 miles should be ok. You might feel slow acceleration from a stop but once you get going, it shouldn't be too bad

Brakes don't lock up, just feel like there's no power brakes.

Prius also has this, any chance it just needs to be recharged?

You really need to read the codes to be certain, everything is a guess at this point

Would auto zones scan suffice? Or should I get the $100 scan? Sorry to sound cheap but I'm a college girl just trying to get by :)

Autozone would work for most things, try that first

Have u try resetting the system by unplug the negative terminal of your 12v battery and replug it. I always do that and it often solve the problem

    SM-N9208 ?

I'll definitely give that a try! And which one is the negative terminal? Is there a "how to" for it? and what does SM-N9208 indicate?

Resetting the car almost never solves the problem, just momentarily gets rid of the warning lights

That sounds just like what my 2007 Prius did. The Hybrid battery was bad. Mine had 178k on it. Get the codes read and go from there. If you do decide to replace the battery, shop around. There are good and bad deals out there.

    Good luck,
    Glenn

Yep it sure was! My freaking uncle talked me into getting a diagnostic to confirm what I already knew and now I'm out $65. I'm shopping around, the quoted me at $3430 for everything. I'm in Columbia SC if anyone has any tips or know anybody. I asked my local mechanic who used to be head mechanic at Toyota if he would do it and he said he hasn't but he'll research and see what he can do for me.

I hear mixed things about the Dorman reconditioned batteries Is it worth getting it or should o just bite the bullet and get a new one?
