2008 prius battery or ecm?

    Hello looking for some help with our 08 prius. Went into limp mode with the red triangle of death so we took it to the dealer, they were thinking bad ecm or hybrid battery. Took it home removed the battery and tested each module separately, all 28 tested right at 8 volts. Cleaned all bus bars and re installed everything and got the same results. Next we bought the obd2 tourque app and tried to veiw the battery block volts. Could view block 1 at around 15 volts but the rest of the blocks all read -320 volts. Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated. Would a bad ECM not let me read the battery volts?

    since you have torque, what are the trouble codes?

    Yes. Post codes.

    Inspect the wiring on the battery.
    Look for corrosion or breaks in the ring terminals, etc.

    Unplug the orange connector at the HV battery computer. Inspect the connector. Inspect the pins of the computer. Post pics here.

    Codes are PO172 P3190 POAOF. I'll check the orange connector on the hv computer tomorrow and post pictures. Thanks!

    P0172: System too rich. A fuel injector might be leaking or the mass air flow meter needs to be cleaned or replaced.
    P3190: Poor engine power. This is related to P0172.
    P0A0F: Engine failed to start.

    None of those diagnostic trouble codes relate to the traction battery, by the way.

    Can you test your Obdii adaptor on another Prius.
    Just trying to confirm if it is giving you false info, like the -320v. I have seen some weird results like that from bad adaptors.

    Do you happen to have Techstream on an XP laptop? Might be able to extract more info and feel more confident about it.

    As noted above the codes you have are air/fuel/spark related.

    No sorry all I have is the tourque pro. But I did run the car for a while and no codes came back but battery level on the dash stayed pretty low.

    It seems more likely you have a torque coding issue or OBD adapter issue.
    If you have no codes, yet you're getting negative 320v readings...............

    Well I guess I can order another obd2 adapter. The tourque app seems to work fine on my other vehicles but they're not hybrids either.

    I meant try the adapter on a different, known good Prius. Like a friend's or a used dealer lot.

    Alright, we live in a pretty small town no car lots and cant think of any friends with a prius. Might have to travel this weekend and go find one I guess. Anything else I could try in the meantime? I cleaned all the battery terminals and bus bars when I tested the battery and all the plugs and pins looked good on the battery computer

    What works well is finding a prius for sale on craigslist. You can go check it out, plug in your OBD adapter to check the battery health. You'll know pretty quick if it's your car or the Torque.

    Hello, I have a similar issue. My battery pack shows 221 Volts and displays red triangle in dash. Has codes as shown in pic below. Dismantled battery, each cell shows from 8.19V to 8.24V.     The red triangle does not always mean a HV battery problem....
    Your P0A08 and 09 have nothing to do with the HV battery...…………..P0A80 is a HV battery, not P0A08
    The 08/09 codes you have are related to the DC/DC converter
    The other codes you're showing?....idk what in the world they are, or if they're even legit prius codes. I'm not familiar with them, other than the P3030, which is disconnect between battery and ecu. Look at the HV battery module sensor harness for that one. Look at all the voltage sensing tabs to make sure they're undamaged and look at the plug where it connects to the ecu, it tends to get corrosion in the pins.

    Just to be certain you're not chasing your tail with a bunch of baloney codes, make sure your 12v battery is good before you get too deep.
