2008 prius started smoking while warming up

    yes and no. They can but their OBD readers don't always see the Toyota hybrid specific codes (some have). The good news, as you may know, is it's a free service.

    Probably not. And it's an awesome risk just for a free scan that may or may not give you the info you need. Fill the reservoirs with the Toyota Long Life coolant first and then it might be worth a try.

    no coolant?
    could the "smoke" inside the car have been steam??
    wonder if the heater core blew out..
    check the carpet on the passenger side to see if its soaking wet..
    don't run the car until you find the leak..
    might be time to find a new ride not knowing how much damage has been done to the motor and charging system

    Put coolant in both reservoirs and no lights on dashboard showed up. Let it sit running for 10 minutes then drove it about 3-4 miles. Everything seemed to be ok so far but will keep you posted if something happens. Luckily i only drive about 1 mile to and from work.

    …good point! When I lived back in Blighty, I had the heater core leak in a car. I got in one day and it smelled like a laundry, and the windows started to steam up! :eek:
