    I was driving to work this morning on the 101-N at about 70 mph. Suddenly my accelerator stopped engaging. I was able to pull over onto a shoulder and remained there until help arrived. Wile waiting I tried turning the prius on and off several time and it worked, however, when I would try to shift into drive my car refused and would only shift back and forth from park to neutral.

    A couple of potentially related details :

    -I have been having issues with break system. These will occur in the morning typically. All of the break lights come on the dash i.e. "brake" "vsc" and the exclamation point with the circle around it. Then, if I am not moving, like at a red light or stop sign, I will feel the break peddle stiffen and my car begin to inch forward. The break peddle continues to work fine but requires a lot more pressure than normal.

    -Also, my gas gauge has been giving me grief. Once the gas tank is empty if I fill the tank with a couple gallons the gas gauge will continue to read as empty. Usually, when I fill the tank completely the issue resolves itself.

    -In October I had the gas pump and dashboard replaced after I took my Prius into the shop for not starting.

    Are any of these symptoms connected? I had a friend with Triple A come out to meet me and we had the car towed together. Now it is at a mechanic and being a relatively clueless female car owner I don't want to get swindled. Thank you!

    welcome!

    best thing you can do is ask them for the trouble codes, and post them here for advice before proceeding with repairs.
    how many miles on her?

    Does it still have the original battery?

    As to filling the tank, I do recall my 2005 manual saying something about a minimum amount of fuel needing to be added for the gauge to reset.

    @bisco
    Ahh I see! Okay, still waiting to hear back from the Mechanic. They can't seem to figure out what's wrong with the poor thing. They were able to tell me that the car went into "limp mode," if that helps at all. I'll be sure to update the thread once I get the codes.

    She has about 190,000 miles on her, but I am hoping to squeeze some more out if at all possible!

    In Los Angeles, there's a very good honest Hybrid mechanic near USC. His name is AVI at hybridfix.com. He'll give you a honest quote, even if you're a "clueless female car owner".

    Hopefully it won't cost too much to get the car back on the road again.
