It was installed by a dealer and still needs a work order to check the dead battery. I called 2 dealership and both said the same thing.

makes sense, except for the 'bring your dead on the road car here at your expense' part

    It is a risky proposition.
The fact that it seems to have turned out OK probably says more about luck than skill.
Sometimes you get a box of rocks for your $30.

    how could skill be involved?

So since I installed a fully charged used 12 volt battery in my Prius. I've noticed my hybrid battery reaches Full Green charge bars more often. Since I've only drove this car a little under a year and 13000 miles. I rarely saw full Green Bars ever. It was all ways in the blue bar range. I never saw full greens bars even going down hill for 15-20mins coasting. It only happened after installing this replacement battery. Could an old 12 volt battery really effect this kind of out come? Will this help in my overall mpg?

It can certainly have this effect and affect the ability to reach green bars. But, the 12 V battery would need to be shorted or severely degraded such that the DC/DC converter was putting a lot of effort into trying to charge the 12 V battery. I have seen this effect also by keeping a charger on my 12 V battery so that the car has to spend less of its energy charging the 12 V battery.
More than likely, in your case. Not everyone who changes their 12 V battery will necessarily see such an improvement, though. It just depends on what is going on with the 12 V battery.

    Yes and maybe.
As documented here by many, MANY other owners.
