    Hi

I have bought 2009 Model Toyota Prius Hybrid and I don't know how to change the display language to English. Everything is written in Japanese and I'm unable to understand Japanese language.

Kindly requesting if any one can help me with their intelligence.

    Thank you

As far as I am aware, it is not possible. The language is set at the factory for the destination market and cannot be changed after the fact.

On Gen2 there is a screen with a button saying Language to do exactly this. Top right physical button on the outside of the touch screen if I recall correctly.

You maybe recalling something, although not correctly, if you are recalling a Prius with Nav. On that vehicle the top right button is the "MENU" button (not Language) and in that menu you can navigate to the Nav settings and change the language. However that does not effect a system wide change, the system language will be what was set for the destination market. On a Gen II Prius without Nav, there is no such language function.

This question is asked a lot by people here in NZ where there are a lot of JDM Prii imported and to date, I have not seen a solution apart from sourcing a complete English language MDF and doing a replace of the installed JDM MDF.

    Gen II MDF without Nav:

How to select the Nav language:

    hope this helps.

Although your experience clearly differs from mine, that does not mean that you can assume I am recalling incorrectly.

My UK Gen2 has no Nav, and it does have the Language function.

I'd be interested to know more about how you were able to do this. Is there a chance you could post some photos of the process?

On mine I press "Info" and the Language button appears on that menu.

(Correction from my first post, on mine this is the bottom right button).

OP is asking about a JDM Prius. I agree it is unlikely his issue can be resolved without a hardware swap.

It is reasonable that Prius shipped to Europe would offer several European language choices.

Thanks GT4, for taking the time to take those photos. I'm fairly sure my UK 2006 T-Spirit did not have that option on the info screen, but I could be wrong.

But, it makes sense that in the multi-lingual EU market to offer a language option, rather than build unique for each destination country. It is good to be aware of the regional differences that are offered, being an international forum.

However, as Patrick points out, this is of little help to the OP as his JDM sourced Prius does not offer that software option.

Thanks again for showing us all what is available on the EU model.

    Cheers.
