[Not only would like to disable back up alarm but I hate these damn doors that lock auto soon as you put in reverse. I have tried the manual directions but have failed so far

Im going to try on my 2010 tonight - Dealer said $50 AND LEAVE for a day.... and that could NOT reduce the seatbelt tones.

Took a Toyota service dept all of five minutes to disable the backup beep on my car but they still charged me $93.93 (two hours labor) for it.

With all this kind of crap, I'm thinking about passing on Toyota for my next car.

I purchased a Prius last Saturday and took the car in the next Wednesday to get the auto door lock disabled and the reverse beep deleted. The service manager quoted me $90 to do the work. I immediately found the sales manager and the guy who sold me the car. With a few minutes converation, the work was done without charge.

The sales and service departments within a dealership operate in different "dimensions". Each have their own profit centers. Sometimes it's up to the buyer to bring them together.

I am not technical, but I asked my dealership about this and they were able to make a software adjustment so that on putting the car in reverse, only one beep sounds. There should not be any charge.

Can anyone confirm if this is still true in the 2010? I agree that it happens in the Gen2, but I would expect the Gen3 to put the data in eeprom where the battery is not necessary to keep the memory.

Reverse and seatbelts beeps remain unchanged when 12V accessory battery is disconnected.

Here is a reason to keep the beep.

I'll bet you the procedure involves a laptop and proprietary update software. At least it should.

I tried this today and the scangauge did indeed change the constant beeping to one beep. I have the procedure saved as an xGauge so if the 12V bat is ever disconnected and the beeping reverts to the default, I can perform the procedure in a few seconds.

    Here are the xGauge codes:
TXD: 07c03bac40 (change last 40 to 00 if you want to re-enable it)
    RXF: 047b15ac0000
    RXD: 2008
    MTH: 000100010000

My local dealer did it for free at my 5k service, which too was free.

What I don't understand, given the almost universal loathing of this feature, is why Toyota don't make it one beep by default, and multiple beeps by dealer request, rather than the other way around.

This is the worst feature of this car, what was Toyota thinking? I'm going back to the dealer to get this disabled as soon as I can.
