My winter average has been a poor 20km/L (47mpg) because I use the heater and despite wearing a hat, gloves winter coat. I have no trouble here in Japan getting up to 33/77 driving calmly through the suburbs at low speed, as that's all you can do here just about, and nobody gets angry.

My usual average is closer to 26/61 when not using heating or AC during the better seasons and not trying too hard, or the same during Summer using the AC and being frugal.

The funny thing is, I average far better driving through the suburbs than on the highways.

Recently drove from northern Wisconsin to northeastern Indiana. It was a 1,300 mile round trip and filled up 5 times:

    260.4 miles, 5.834 gallons, 47.1 mpg (comp.), 44.6 (calc.), -5.23%
    252 miles, 5.297 gallons, 50.1 (comp.), 47.6 (calc.), -5.04%
    259.6 miles, 5.742 gallons, 48.7 (comp.), 45.2 (calc.), -7.16%
    357.8 miles, 7.525 gallons, 50.5 (comp.), 47.5 (calc.), -5.85%
    172.2 miles, 3.964 gallons, 48.2 (comp.), 43.4 (calc.), -9.87%

Overall: 1,302 miles and a 45.9 calculated average MPG. The average percent difference between computer and calculated MPG was -6.63%. I don't know why the last tank was so far off, but if you don't consider it the average percent difference is more like -5.8%

I am happy with the results. I was hoping we would get closer to 50 mpg, but it is winter, the car was fully loaded and either way you look at it it is still better then the 27 mpg our CR-V would have gotten. The best part was being stuck in Chicago rush hour, on the Kennedy Expressway, watching our fuel mileage go up!:D

2011 Prius III, 22,100 miles (mid August to mid February) in Maryland. Using 100% grill block on lower grill since November. Daily 160 mile commute nearly all at highway speed (65mph). I'm getting consistent average consumptions between 51 and 55 mpg. OEM tires are at 42/40 psi

My lower grill block seems to add a few mpg since (2-5) getting our colder temperatures. This is a 'must consider' for everyone when getting into colder weather - note be sure to use a scan-gauge to monitor the engine water temp (mine never goes above 200f) when using lower grill blocking as there is a risk on overheating the engine. I do occasionally add upper grill block during much colder days - this is when the scan-gauge really is best since temperatures vary and water temp can sometimes go up past 200f.

My Mileage log is under "HyperDrive 1" at Cleanmpg.com. My Odometer just turn 20014 miles, my overall MPG is 60.9 mpg sofar. My MPG is higher than normal because I've been teaching myself hypermiling. I've gradually gotten better at hypermiling. I drive in mainly stop and go congested Washington DC metro area traffic. My Prius' MFD average speed is about 18 mph - if I don't hypermile my computed at the pump MPG is about 52 mpg and my MFD average speed is about 24 mph. The tire pressure on my stock Yokohama Avid S33D was gradually increased to 50 psi in the front and 48 psi in the rear. With a pre-warmed up ICE (181F degrees) my ScangaugeII has estimated that I can sometimes achieve over 80 mpg on trips >= 15 miles/60minutes long. For the first 5 minutes from a cold start (ICE starting at <60F degrees) driving less than 3 miles , the Prius fuel efficiency is between 17 mpg to 33 mpg. Weather (Temperature, Precipitation) and traffic (congested, empty roads) conditions are the main controlling factors that limit fuel efficiency on a Prius. When temperatures drop below 50F, when it rains/snows/sleets, or when there is a traffic jam that last longer than 10 minutes - the Prius fuel efficiency can drop signficantly.

    Update:
Model III with Solar roof. Have driven 39,525 miles since buying the car August 2009. 70-75% highway mileage at about 60 mph, remainder on stop and go city/county streets at 25-40 mph. Mostly flat terrain in CA central valley. Hot summers (~100F) mild winters. I've filled 84 tanks of gas so far, 751.560 total gallons of gas. Have averaged 52.59 mpg (actual calculation) over those ~40K miles. The car's estimate is 55.35 mpg, which is ~5% overestimate. Not surprisingly cold weather (~40F, well that's cold for us) and wind decrease mileage during the winter months, with my lowest mileage for a tank of gas = 46.5mpg. Spring and fall weather have yielded the best mileage for me. I do not pay attention to the car's minute by minute estimates or the cars estimate for a particular trip. I do record the car's estimates at each tankfull but only for comparison to the real numbers. So far my best recorded mileage for a tank of gas was 58.3mpg over 450 miles. I drive slow, accelerate slow (when safe) and do not use hypermileage techniques such as pulse and glide. I just simply drive the speed limit on local roads and about 60 mph in the slow lane on highways, glide into stops when possible etc. My experience tells me it is not hard at all to get 50 mpg with this car under appropriate conditions taking into account terrain and temperature and especially if you do not have a lead foot.

Seems like its off by 6% now

I bought gas at station that was just to good to pass up...

15 cents cheaper than by me...

    dash - 61.8
    actual- 59.8

This was the highest I have ever acheived on this over 2 years of driving.!!!

Just had dealer oil change (and tires have been adjusted down)...
