I'm hoping to join a class action suit against Toyota for reducing the resale value of my Turd gen car. There should be at least a TSB issued for this problem.....but wait, then they'll open up the law suit flood gates

Just dropped off the coche. $1550 estimate includes new head gasket, machining the head, new water pump, & cleaning the EGR circuit. Probably needs new valve cover gasket but that's just the cost of the part, $20-$40. Praying there's not more wrong with it; they estimate to be done at the end of today. Will update.

WRAPUPDATE: Had the job done about a week ago. Total came to about $1550, took them about 2 days. They said it didn't need a valve job. So far so good after about 250 miles. No CEL and no rough starts, not losing coolant anymore. Hopefully this fix will last another 170k.

If by that you mean you think it will go another 170K miles without another (different) major problem.......I think you are dreaming.
    But it's possible I guess.

Probably, as long as you keep the egr cooler and related parts cleaned out.

I meant as far as engine wise... shocks, bearings, etc., if normal wear and tear.
