Sounds like a lot of work and a lot of pain for a 32k car.

You're right. I thought that sounded small, but didn't think to question it. Maybe we're supposed to double those numbers to get the true turning circle. 34.2 and 36? Hope Toyota appreciates all this fine proofreading we're doing for them! ;)

Did anyone notice the est. city/hwy rating? it's pretty much equal across the board at 50/49 combined: 50.

Or that the rear discs are larger than the front??

Or that the height hasn't changed with the larger 17" alloys? (which means they lowered the car by an inch)

Water repellent front windows is another Lexus feature (how many are there on this Prius?!?!?). As spwolf said, it's aids in visibility (i.e. checking your mirrors) as the water droplets glide more easily across the surface of the window, thus leaving the window with less droplets and thus a clearer view.

The "step lamp" is what I believe to be illuminated door scuff plates... i.e. the illuminated PRIUS and HSD logos on the front door sill. The blue car at Detroit had amber/orange front footwell lighting.

As usbseawolf said, it's the width of the tyre.

Also our current Prius has HSEA glass and it's much better than the one found on our 02 Camry. I found the interior to be cooler even with the black dashboard.

Niice. How is it that the cargo vol. is now 21.6 cu. ft? That's a huge jump from the revised 14 cu ft (or even the original 16 cu ft) of the current Prius.

A quick calculation suggests that the 17" wheels & tires should lower the car by 0.18 inch, compared to the 15", unless Toyota raised the car.

I didn't check the tire manufacturer's website for rolling radius.

    Sidewall heights are different.

    P195/65R15: Radius = (195mm*0.65/25.4mm/inch) + 15/2 = 12.49 inches.

    P215/45R16: Radius = (215mm*0.45/25.4mm/inch) + 17/2 = 12.31 inches.

I.e. the "little" wheel has a slightly taller tire. But this is close enough that rolling radius is needed, so see how much its gets flattened under load.

Sorry for the confusion. The step lamp refers to the under console light in the front foot wells. The Prius/HSD illuminated scuff plates are an accessory that we are testing... and may bring to market.

Aww shucks, I really liked the illuminated Prius scuff plate. Hopefully it's reasonably priced.

Could this simply be the radius of the turning circle? (Making the circle 36'.)

I love the looks of the new Prius and also have one on order, but I not sure about this picture that shows fog lights and a moon roof?

Ohh, then why not call it front footwell lighting like you do on the RAV4?

Do bring the illuminated scuff plates. I almost bought a set for the current one but $260ish was a little pricey (maybe because it had to be imported from Japan?)

    +1

It's a grey cover. No fogs.

+2 for the illuminated scuff plates :)

I was nervous that they would only be available to those who get the solar panel moonroof option after only seeing it on the blue car... But this is something that I am sure if the price isn't absurdly high, many would spend for...

Oh, and how about just making it part of the advanced tech package Doug? ;)

I think lighting should not be in only one package... give it up the LED lights, scuff plate lights and FOG lights. HEY how about a lighting package?

The Toyota spec sheet says: "Turning Circle Diameter (curb to curb)" but you're probably right. Which is almost a deal-breaker for us. We love the nimbleness of our 2002's.

Even so, if the full diameter is just over 34', that is still pretty tight. It is better than a Mini Cooper, which is just more than 35'.

True but the classic Prius had a ridiculously tiny turning circle. The current Prius had a normal compact car turning circle.

My 1972 Jeep C-J5 had a turning radius of 16.5 feet, which is a diameter of 33 feet - a very tight turning radius. Keep in mind that the wheelbase of that Jeep was a foot shorter than the classic VW bug.

I'm sorry if this is already covered elsewhere but I wanted those interested in the 2010 Prius to be aware that Road and Track announced in their April issue that on March 25, 2009 at 12:01 am EST ("hybrid history") they will post their "Exclusive Video" of their "...first driving impressions of the 2010 Toyota Prius..."
