What aren't you happy with about the flaps?

In terms of design, they are a bit short... if they went up the well about 4 more inches or so (tapered), they would be more effective. If you look my "Dirty Car" thread, you will see they really do nothing to keep the grime off. The do not doubt keep the rocks from pelting the sides of the car which is really their main function I guess.
I am just saying that if the film indeed protects the paint, it probably would be better than the flaps.

I just installed a set and they are not the best fitting flaps but I hope they are better than not having them at all.

Really? Mine fit like a glove. No slack and tight up against the car. I know for me, the car will be much better off with them than without.

Spiderman thanks for your thoughts. I did a "dry fit' on the mudguards today, and still can't get a feeling as to whether they will not rub the paint. Do you notice any scuffing under the body side edges of them? You would maybe have to pull back the edge with your fingernail to see if they have. How long have you had them on the car? I personally like the look of them, just as I prefer seeing the car w/o the plastic wheel covers. I think if they were any larger they might better protect the car, but would "overpower", (be intrusive to) the look of the car. Guess we all have our own ideas on what we like, which is a good thing. :D

My car is sooo dirty I really couldn't tell you if it was scuffing. Don't plan on washing it until April probably. We just got dumped on again today with another 9" of snow.
You might just consider using some silicon caulk (clear) where the flap contacts the body in a small amount.
Personally I am not worried myself. I will never take them off.

Oh, had them on since September.

Where there is contact against the paint, it will scuff over time. I'm willing to live with that because it will wear mudguards from now on, so any affected area is "under the car" so to speak. I just received my shipment from Priuschat and will be installing this weekend. Thanks Danny.

The wear on the paint can be reduced if we use some 3M transparent tape or clear paint protectant before installing the flaps. I do this in all my cars because I like to nudge/tap the flaps with my foot before driving it into the garage.

I did notice that the OEM flaps on the gen 3 do move a bit and that may erode the paint a bit, but having it too tight can also be a detriment in the colder days especially if you hit the flaps too hard.

    Cheers;

    MSantos

Just installed a set of the OEM mud guards. It took me about 20 minutes. Please don't remove your back tires people...there's no need...really.

Also, I got them for $59 on eBay and $7 for shipping from a Toyota dealer in the SE region

No, I went for the longer European guards for better coverage. They extend above the body crease. On my 04 I got splatters above the guard and these are a couple of inches longer.

Do the mud flaps affect mpg at all ?
They must affect the drag coefficient.

There was a lot of discussion on this site about mud flaps on the GenII and it was determined to be unmeasurable outside a wind tunnel. A search will reveal that discussion.

Can you post a vid on youtube of you offroading in your Prius?

I really want to see a Prius ford a stream or climb an embankment.

I have mudflaps on my 4x4, why the hell would I want them on my Prius???
