Mg1 mg2 are inside transmissions correct. Cus I'm figuring the dif might have some play in it rocking back and forth slightly .
In either case replacing the transmission would replace all of that Anyway.
It looks like I missed the $300 transmission near me but there are 3 or 4 $400 transmissions available.
I'm Uber driver I can not have a fairly loud click everytime I move the car. Since the customers have ability to complain. After so many complaints they fire you. Since I have physical problems I cannot work a regular job. So loosing the income I can actually do is not an option. Buying a vehicle comes with a very large monthly payment. So I'm an auto mechanic by trade I have the tools time and skill to do these things. It's way better to keep this job with this car for a few more years. So yeah noise has to go away like now.

Shop tool to remove axles is a very large pry bar with enough space under the car to operate said very large pry bar. Kinda hard on jack stands.

The transaxle rarely fails. There is a static clutch damper between the engine and transaxle that occasionally fails. Watch video on Prius gen3 transaxles on Weber Auto. It has no operating clutches, torque converter or solenoids.

That was replaced, new about 100k miles ago. Noise is not happening when transmission is starting the engine. It happens when any pressure to driveline happens. The engine does not have to start. I would think if that starts making noise it would be during engine start up and during other engine tasks.

Here is me showing how it doesn't do it if I don't let it regen brake to a stop.

I'm thinking here something shifting inside the transmission like the final differential during the breaking regeneration and then shifting back when going forward. That's why no noise.

I might have tempted fate saying transmission seems indestructible two main times. But almost 400k miles wouldn't be bad.

It looks like I'm probably gonna replace the transmission. If that's the problem I'll try to find a place to take the problem transmission apart to give an after report on what the problem turns out to be. I'm thinking of something to do with the final drive differential. Maybe a worn out pin.

Indeed there is. I haven't seen the configuration. Couldn't imagine how that would make this particular noise. On normal transmission it makes a bunch of clicks if you try to put it into park going too fast just before it slams your car to a halt.

Maybe 250 miles on that transmission fluid. Lol don't go so long between changing it. IMG20221113104334.jpeg

Wow, a 5 minute video for a 10 second spot..... A lot easier when the engine is out...

Yeah I decided I wasn't going to be able to get transmission out at least easily with the engine in. I removed the exhaust manifold and will extract it from the top where the engine used to be.
I don't have shop equipment so it's kinda different then I would have done it in a shop.
Don't know why it is 5 minute video.

At least we know what a qualified pry bar is...

I would take a close look at the clutch damper

Where I am today. I better get a qualified person to put it back in.
Waiting on a friend to go get the used transmission.
    Anyone cold?
    Here are some warm pics for y'all. IMG20221114084858.jpeg IMG20221114084845.jpeg IMG20221114084829.jpeg IMG20221114085244.jpeg

If I grab that pin in there I get some back and forth play. Idk if that's normal or not. I know if you have tires off the ground there will be a bit of play in the axles. IMG_20221114_100941.jpeg

Ah not like my hands can produce the torque the transmission can.
Noise usually doesn't happen until it warms up a bit anyway.
