To lap or not to lap valves that's no question. Take the time to lap.

Yup I'm doing it in my bath tub.

Brought some of job inside next day or so gonna be rainy. IMG_20191018_154954.jpeg IMG_20191018_155357.jpeg IMG_20191018_154954__01.jpeg IMG_20191018_155357__01.jpeg

    Lapping also fixes the seat.

They sell lapping tool but I think that's a scam.

DRILL on valve stem makes all the difference. Just have to support the drills weight as to not allow weight to affect stem.

Never done anything like this. Watched this video a while back, seemed a knowledgeable guy. Opinions?

Note "squeak" at 12:50. Sound plays a big part; it's almost a "sonar" thing.

Well there are alot of things one can do to valves. This is no race car so port and polish is not needed. Just reseat is good enough.

Due to the conditions in the engine the face of the valve as well as the seat in the head get pitted and dirty. This lowers the ability to contain the combustion, intake, and exhaust.

Reseating the valve improves the containment.

Thanks for all of the photos and updates. Really interesting to see. Also makes me think I should have run BG EPR for longer than fiften minutes before my oil change last week. Next time I think I'll do twenty to thirty.

Get one of those cellphone boroscopes, have a look through the spark plug holes.

I just started watching this. Having super clean valves is not necessary. Using grinder so close to valve sealing surface could damage it beyond repair if there is a slip don't care how soft the brush is. Only surfaces that need to be perfect bar the slide part of the stem and the sealing part.

I do remember they talked extensively in automotive school about the 3 different parts of the sealing areas of the valve but don't remember details. I would never put any kind of spinning cleaning brush to top portion of a valve for fear of irrevocably damaging the sealing surface. IMG_20191018_163927__01.jpeg

He is using brass bristles, but I'll defer to your verdict.

If you look close you actually can see the 3 different surfaces in the valve sealing surface.

No need to get valve any cleaner it will just get this dirty 20 miles down the road.

But to achieve this I spin valve with drill in the head useing valve grinding compound. Using very light pressure up against valve seat resurfacing both seat and valve at same time.

There are fancy machines that will do better job but I'm inclined to not spend that kind of money when this has worked great in the past.

Again not a racing car with super high compression that needs such precision.
