I wonder what kind of combination will lead to it. When I sold my 2010 at 10 years olds, the moonroof was working properly and the seals look ok (worn but not cracked or peeling away). I use my moonroof regularly as I love the open top feeling on cool days (and in the summer).

It appears this is a cold climate issue. Not much of a concern for warmer areas such as LA.

Does any aftermarket company sell just the rubber trim around moonroof?

Joining your group. I have a 2010 Prius and the deflector rubber began deteriorating in 2013. I reported twice to my dealer in Montreal and finally got it replaced in 2015 with repair cost shared between dealer and me.
The problem has now returned with both glass components of sunroof. The rubber trimming is bubbling under and around, and is detaching itself from the glass rim. It seems stretched out and dried out. Gluing it back in place definitely not possible. It looks very bad.

We purchased our Gen3 in 2010. A year later the rubber around the sunroof had deteriorated significantly; 9 years on it's absolutely terrible and embarrassing. Somewhat relieved to figure out it's cosmetic only, but disappointed they could let something like this happen and refuse corrective action.

It's so obvious it's a flaw in the material, too - the right side of the car is perfect, it's the left side only that starts in a very specific position where the deterioration is. Yes I live in Canada (60 C degree swing from summer to winter), and no I don't use any exotic cleaning products.

i have a 2011 Prius, and live in Buffalo, NY. Dec 2019, after our 1st snowfall, the seal failed on my deflector panel also. part # 63201-47010. upon closer inspection the two corners were also cracked. my dealer wanted more than $1200 to repair. i went thru my car insurance (full glass coverage) and had it replaced FOC. interestingly enough, the actual part was sold to safelight for approx $400, but my dealer was charging me $1100. attached is pic of seal failure.

Everyone should go complain to them first then get it repaired so at least their foot will be held to the fire. If no formal complains, how will they even know it’s an issue?

In that note, if anything like that happens to my car, I’ll let them know how I feel with a certified mailed letter to Toyota.

I have the same issue with my Prius 2012, in Montérégie (south of Montréal). No later than this week, my Toyota dealer (St-Hubert Toyota) estimated the cost of repair, parts and labour, to 970$+tx, to change the whole deflector only. If your Québec city is asking almost 2400$ for the same thing, I would seriously question their integrity...

My 2012 did the same thing. Both deflector panel and sunroof. Toyota wouldn’t cover anything at all.

Interesting thread, my seals were all replaced a few years ago on my moonroof. After much discussion my local dealer, Toyota Canada and I all paid a third each of the $2500 or so final bill. Now they're completely disintegrated again. I'm looking for best solution to not look like crap without the ridiculous price tag. Pretty sure Toyota won't be chipping in this time. 6 year old car, only been hosed off, lives outside in BC. My kids drive a 15 year old Mazda that has a sunroof with no seal issues, same climate. What the hell

My 2012 Prius III has exactly the same problem! I have been quoted $600 to fix it as the gasket/liner itself cannot be purchased separately. Seems people have had varying degrees of success with getting Toyota to cover this. Any hints?

Screenshot_20200128-143010.png DSC_1348.JPG DSC_1350.JPG I have this leak in my car every time it rains. See picture. Is it a sunroof leak or windshield leak?

Toyota wants 2000$ to fix it and they say it's the sunroof. The sunroof rubber is detoriated and causing the leak (see pic).

They say I have to change entire sun roo
