Yes someone replaced their windshield themselves with aftermarket glass and it fixed the problem (I think it was Safelite). Search this thread.

But realize you are setlling for less than standard if you accept aftermarket glass.

LOL. I can't drive my car from dusk until dawn. I can't imagine how the glass could be any worse than standard.

It should be same or better quality per their website.

Haha good point. What I meant to say is Toyota has an obligation to supply OEM parts. In that sense you shouldn't settle for less. If you go aftermarket Toyota warranty likely wouldn't apply to it.

Since some owners have found OEM windshields that are good and clear, a person could just let the dealer swap in new windshields every week or so until they stumble upon a good one [IMG]

You'd think since this weird windshield issue is on many other brands and models of vehicles that someone in our big gov would take notice and figure out how to fix the issue at the glass manufacturer.

My dealer acknowledged the problem, but won't replace it with a new one because they also see the same problem in the brand new cars on the lot. So they're not willing to waste money replacing it when logic says it wont fix it.

Doesn't your country have laws that say they have to resolve the issue or buy the car back?

I looked into it briefly when we first bought it, and I don't think so. But other than the windshield we really love the car and there's no other car on the market that offers the things we want. I figure eventually they'll fix it.

Wasn't that your car that got nailed by that Mustang? You may want to trade it in when you get it back ;)

    Mike

Either that or suggest aftermarket glass.

 I am pretty sure Toyota does NOT want your dealer saying that publicly.

Can you imagine? "Yes all PiPs come with defective front windshields." Yeah that's along the same lines as saying all Toyota's come with unintended acceleration.

Btw, since it would be a warranty claim they would be wasting Toyota's money, not their own. Your dealer is basically giving you the run around.

They woukd also be wasting MY time and MY money. There's no point replacing the windshield with Toyota parts when the new cars just off the boat have the same problem.

    Hi !

Update from Canada: got my windshield replace with an OEM one yesterday, made sure to pick up the car after sunset, the issue is still there.

The dealer says I'm the first to complain about this and could not believe the new one had the same problem. lol

Waiting for a call form the service manager ...

    Cheers !

Bummer. Time for another one... It would be nice if someone could train someone to check these weird windshields before they even attempt an install.

Mike, that's exactly what I told the service rep o_O

"You should of tested the windshield at night BEFORE putting it on my car"

    Will keep you posted ...
