2011 Prius - Windshield triples light source images

I hate when my son points at something and leaves finger prints on my windows Hey daddy, look at that, finger planted on the glass

Either find some way to measure it, as the police do with tinting and light levels, distortion is measurable, or live with it.

 

You know, I haven't really associated the windshield sheen with the temperature. But I can't tell you if that's because there's no association, or because I haven't been paying attention.
I will now (now that it's getting cold... sigh . . . )

I believe this is from Amit R on this forum, a few pages back.

 

I was in my dads cadillac today. Same thing is happening, pretty standard, people are just being hypersensitive.

 

Do you think it could have been caused by film buildup on the inside of the glass?

it was a little filmy actually, and more noticeable over the filmy parts. If I cleaned it I probably wouldn't notice it as much.

 

That's my thoughts too. Maybe this is just a glass cleaning issue rather than defective glass. That'd be the easy answer

no i can assure you it is not. even when my windshield is crystal clear it has no affect on the mirroring effect.

 

I think some windshield are worse than others, due to the bonding of the layers. The variance is exaggerated by the rake angle of the windshield.

Mine, while there is a faint hint of something below the main light source, I honestly did not notice it until I saw this post. It certainly does not look anything like the the video.

I am also wondering if Toyota has multiple supplier for the windshield. For those who have the issue, can you post the label on the lower driver side of the windshield?

 

I bought my Prius a couple weeks ago and noticed this problem right when I drove off the lot at night. I confirmed with various other people riding in my car to make sure it wasn't just me. It's a triple effect very similar to Amit's video, and so far I don't see the presence of any film on the inside of the glass.

Brought it back to the dealer and have had a lot of back and forths pushing this through the service department and up to their manager. So far no one has dismissed it, and have recognized it as a legitimate issue (but as a defective windshield, not a problem shared by all 2012 Prius models), and have *said* a windshield replacement would be in order, but nothing is certain yet. I've been told to wait for a call once a Toyota regional rep. for parts is in the area so that he/she can personally check out the problem, will update later.

you know now that I think of it when I first got my car I noticed it had suction cup markings inside the glass on all 4 corners. maybe the windshield was replaced after leaving the assy line. maybe we have aftermarket windshields.

 

Post a pic of the label on the driver side lower corner. It shows the supplier.

 

I'll be dropping the car off this week sometime and they will keep it until they fix it...

 

Just drove a Range Rover. Same tripling issue.
