41 MPG combined... seems crazy for 200hp large sedan. Plus they dropped the price. And got more tech inside. And finally trunk is fine. Crazy. If that dealer didnt post correct info before, i would think it is all bogus . This seems like 2 generations leap, if not more.
thats what it looks like, engine codes have not been changed. But... I dont know how could they get those numbers? Even 4cyl is now best in class.
I agree completely, big difference in mileage! I average 22-24mpg city driving only and 25-26 city/highway combined on a full tank in my '07 Camry.
A few months ago, I was thinking about the Lexus ES 300h(not available until next year) since I am a previous owner of an ES 300. Then this week I was blown away by the new Lexus GS, Wow!. Houston, "I have a problem" Camry Hybrid vs. Prius plug-In, or Heck forget mpg, go for the irresistible new GS.
The leaked engine code for the new camry is 2AR-FXE, I would assume the same engine in the hybrid but I don't know. This is a brand new 2.5L. Where did those mileage estimates come from? They are incredibly good if real.
This huge apparent jump in the fuel usage ratings for the hybrid version IMO is due mostly to the use of the 2.5L in the HSD system instead of the outdated 2.4L based on 1990's technology. The 2.5L is crazy efficient in its own right. I had one for a month while my Prius was awaiting repairs. For the 30 days I drove the 2.5L Camry over the same route as I had in my Prius for 4 yrs. My 4 yr average in my Prius was 47.5 mpg ( 2.2 gal/100 mi ). For the 30 days I drove the 2.5L Camry I recorded fuel usage of 38 mpg Combined with values as high as 44 mpg. The 2.5L ICE-only Camry had a huge disadvantage vis-a-vis my Prius in stop and go driving in that it didn't have the HSD technology but it did awfully well on it's own. Now with the addition of HSD technology I'm not at all surprised that the fuel usage ratings have jumped so significantly.
Yep you're driving the 2.4L 2AZ engine based on 90's technology which first debuted in 1998. The new 2.5L 2AR is a much better ICE.
So my 5.0L/100km is still a pretty good first guess until we hear the official numbers from Canada and Europe =). It might even be under that given the type of testing. Awesome!
yeah but new Camry HSD gets 47% better economy than their new 2.5l engine in 2012 Camry, which also gets best in-class ratings now. that means significant upgrades to hybrid system as well. Previously differences were lesser between 2AZ and 2AZ Hybrid.
if USDM rating improved by 27%, then maybe even significantly more. If we use those numbers for canadian ratings, it should be 4.1l, lol.
440l trunk - 50% bigger than Camry Hybrid, bigger than 2011 regular Camry! 15.5cuft for Hybrid!!! Impressive!!! More trunk space is always a top priority for me. More room to put the groceries
