The price for the 2012 Mitsubishi i Electric has been set at$29,195. The top of the line will be$32,125 and include bluetooth and backup camera and hard disk drive based GPS, iPhone and steering wheel controls. The reason why I'm posting this here is how this will effect the price of the Prius plug in. I think Toyota will be hard pressed to be more costly than the 2012 Mitsubishi i Electric with it 90 mile EV range.

OMG - I'd have NEVER guessed it'd be that much, based off the cost of the Leaf. Look how much the price has effected Volt sales.

Don't forget that the Mitsubishi should qualify for the $7500 rebate from The feds (as long as you are an early buyer and will not get hit by AMT). So the overall price is more reasonable.

I just test drove the Mitsubishi "i" today (apparently I was the 2nd in the country to test drive one). They've debuted the car at the Whole Foods in Hillsboro Oregon (until noon today), then moving out to Washington Square in Tigard, OR until 6PM today, then at various locations around Portland, OR this week. I hadn't heard anything about this vehicle and was surprised to randomly run into it today. The folks demoing the car said it gets min 62 (up to 80) mile range on a 22 hour regular plug in charge, or 6 hour charge with a special outlet upgrade ($700 from Best Buy). The car seemed very basic compared to my 2010 Prius, meaning that the road noise and feel of the car weren't as good as the Prius and the interior wasn't anything to write home about. It was a zippy car, as expected from all electric. I was told that it's a $29K price, but with incentives and tax rebates, people can get them ultimately around $19K (I didn't check anything to validate their claim on this). Overall, it was ok. I wouldn't trade in my Prius for this vehicle, it was too basic for my taste - but I like the direction that vehicles are starting to go all electric. I took pictures, but can't figure out how to upload them to my post from my computer, looks like I need to post them to the web, so unfortunately no pics for me to share. I have pics of the interior dashboard and the outside of the car, in black, white and silver that they brought to demo.

For some, getting a real EV is more.
