My new plug-in prius driven 300 miles being charged every night averages 60.1 miles per gallon. The computer said it was getting 65 mpg. Still I am happy.

The first tank mileage can be deceiving, depending on how much the car sat on and idle at the dealership. Give it a couple of tanks.

Just a note. Being charged every night tells us very little. Do you drive 150 miles per day and charged it twice? Or do you drive it 15 miles per day and charged it 20 times?

I am looking to get a 2012 plug in. I had a 2009 and it got totaled. Because it is a plug-in, will I get more miles per full tank of gas or will I get about the same as my 2009 Touring, right around 45mpg (400 miles per tank)? I commute a lot and I am trying to get the most miles per tank as I can in my price range.

It depends on what percentage is EV. I usually got over 800 miles per tank when I had a PiP. Sometimes over 1,000. I think @bisco gets about a million miles per tank. :D

I have come very close several times, to running out of gas with my '13 PIP. A very real hazard (and one I don't have with my 1 ton pickup oddly enough, with that, I pull in every time I pass a gas station)) with a vehicle that goes weeks between fill ups! Sounds stupid but I kind of lost the habit of frequently checking the fuel gauge. Speaking of the 1 ton, when I am forced to drive it (hauling loads) I drive it like most think a Prius driver drives, slow, trying to improve the dismal mileage. Over the 4 years I've been driving the PIP though, I have pretty much driven it as the mood strikes me, hot rodding it sometimes, (mostly to show other aggressive drivers it will get up and scoot when needed) and it STILL gets great mileage. With my driving and charging regime, I consistently average high 50's per tankful.
