2012 Prius - Are all 2012's series 3?

    I just bought a 2012 Prius, but I'm not certain of the Series it is. Is there a way to confirm this? Are all 2012's the Series 3?

    What does the Series number signify? Is it trim level (eg features included)

    By "Series", I'm assuming you mean "3rd Gen Prius". The 2012's are all 3rd Gen, and came in different trim levels (Two, Three, Four, and Five)

    What would change generation to generation? 2010 to 2015 isn't a literal generation. Does it mean a new design? Maybe new battery technology? Or something else?

    2010 to 2015 is a "literal generation". They all used the same engine and HSD as well as the same body. Trim levels and available options and colours did differ. The generation two used a different engine and HSD, as did the generation one and the generation four, the current model.

    We're talking about the "hatchback" Prius here. Then there is the Prius C and the Prius V, both different cars from the hatchback. The Prius Plugin is very similar to the hatchback, with only slight differences in the body (to hold the larger battery, for example, and the nose is a slightly different style).
