Hello, I'm about to do an engine swap on my 2012 prius due to the fact that I get some coolant in cylinder 1 and it is miss firing and rattling my engine on start up or acceleration 0-20mph. After long discussions with mechanics and hearing all suggestions I toke this decision due to all outcomes of the other options and the one that makes complete sense to me.
If anyone has done engine swap on Gen 3 please reply with your opinion here.
    Thank you in advance!

Guys, because I'm also have to swap the engine, there is interesting thing on the engine wich might help me and to somebody else who might have to swap the engine.
On my engine there is the barcode with number: 05221504
The year of production is 2010.09
On the Ebay there are engines with millage : 18,000, from Prius 2012, the numbers from the barcode are - 01280054, but also it's 226, not like mine one 222.
    Another example from Ebay - Engine from Prius 2013 - Mileage 18000, 10101734, 226.

So I would like to ask maybe somebody knows how to decrypt these numbers? What exatcly do the mean? The year of production? How to buy the newer engine according to these numbers? Thanks.

If you've for that time, and if MONEY is not equal to TIME, you could rebuild that engine, and all would be fine

My guess is that if you could come up with the decoding parameters you would find that those numbers included the year of the car and the engine number. If you look at some of the US Ebay listings for Prius engines, you'll be able to check compatibility. A 2012 engine can be replaced by Prius engines between 2012 and 2016.You can also check compatibility with your local Toyota Dealer/Agency. They for sure can tell you.

Second guy: You hijacked the thread and I got confused. 2010 engines are gen 2 and are compatible with 2011. May be compatible withe 2012 & later. YMMV, check with the dealer. Most of them have parts departments and telephones.

Wow, same exact year and model and same exact cylinder problem. 175k miles. Did you go through with the swap? did it pay off?
