    Prius PHV's ability to "fully" recharge multiple times a day is a significant bonus feature and it is not included in the EPA label unfortunately.

    As we used your commute example, Prius PHV can cover 50% of your miles with electricity and Volt covers 85%.

    In order to cover the extra 35% with electricity, Volt needs 16 kWh battery instead of 4.4 kWh in Prius PHV. That's 364% more battery to cover 35% more miles.

    EPA label said Volt has 35 AER and Prius PHV has 6 AER. That paints a totally different picture than in the case of your commute and multiple recharge.
