    Hello experts,

I'm looking to enter the wonderful world of Prius ownership, and I'm trying to decide between springing for a Gen4 Prius with 75K or so (spending 13-15K) or buying a Gen3 with higher mileage. In particular, there is a 2012 at a local Toyota dealership with impeccable service history, but it has high mileage (175K). They say the battery is in good shape, and everything else is ready to go, but I'm hesitant to spend 6-7K on a car with that high mileage. What do you guys think? Will I just be asking for trouble?

    Thanks!

Do you DIY your car maintenance? If not, I wouldn't recommend the Gen-3.

Hybrids include "expiration dates" not found on other kinds of cars.

Get the youngest one you can afford, ignore odometer.

Thanks everyone. That makes sense about younger vs lower mileage. I have driven the car in question, and it drove fine, but I don't want to DIY the maintenance (I'm trying to get away from that) so I think I'll spring for a younger Gen4. Thanks again.
