2012 Wheels

I realize this thread is 7 years old - but I had to comment on the 15" wheels on my 2015, which I really do not like:

1. You have to remove the wheel covers for access to the wheel nuts.
2. The wheel covers really scratch the black paint on the wheels.
3. The cosmetic appearance of the wheels is poor - to achieve the same look, Toyota could have installed black steel wheels with the wheel covers and saved $300 per car.
4. When replacing the wheel covers, I found it is necessary to whack the covers hard with a rubber mallet while holding the cover in place with my feet and the other hand not holding the mallet. Hence, one must assume an awkward position to do this.

 

Yeah 2010~2011 wheel cover nonsense was bad enough, then in 2012 onward they had to ugly-up the rims by painting them black. I really don't buy into the "emperor's clothes" mentality Toyota has got themselves into.

That moved us to buy the touring with decent-looking 17" rims in 2010; why the heck didn't they just use something like the Plug-In rims, for the 15's...

 

Toyota’s move worked on you; you moved up to the 17” because it was better on the eye. The plug in model have better rims, it’s to have buyers move on up to a plug in for better looking rims.

Still, it was a good move, I don't mind being "taken" sometimes.

What is the weight of those wheels?

 

They're pretty heavy, 24 pounds I think.

 

Wow, I’m suprised. I’m using the Gen 2 Prius’s 16” wheels on my Gen 3, because of the weight mainly - 7kg, ~15,43 lbs.
