I'm just thinking. What about if that top gasket was modified with something more durable, and reliable than the OEM, if the op decides to go replacing it?

i don't know enough to comment, but even a stronger material might work?

but it is simpler just to clean the egr and add an oil catch can.

    UPDATE:
I thought to update this thread and let those know (who were watching it) what I have decided.
After weighing out the pros/cons of the Prius' 220k+ miles and longevity, I decided to trade in the Prius and forego any future mechanical issues. I was offered a very good trade in value and I went for it.

It was a wonderful 3 years having the Prius, but couldn't tackle a major expense to the vehicle.
I hope it finds a good home and someone who will care for it's last miles.

Thank you to everyone who sent in their suggestions, etc.
I wish all the best to those who have been maintaining their own Priuses.

    signing off... ~A~

Wao! Was really a cool offer then.
Are you still going for a gen2, or something more modern than that? Maybe, model 3 Tesla?

    Hello Dxta...
I decided to step out of the Hybrid car market. I didn't realize at the time that major repairs to these types of vehicles would be so costly.
I rushed in a bit when getting purchasing the Prius 3 yrs. ago, and did some basic research on it's longevity. I was using it for Uber/Lyft hence the high mileage. Ideally the car maintains well, but once the error message(s) started to pop up and the mechanic was telling me
what I may be facing, I decided to let go of the Prius.

I purchased a compact SUV which seems to get similar mileage to my 220k+ miles Prius, about 35-38mpg (highway).

The costs are really no more than a non hybrid.
If you put aside money for repairs(as for any vehicle) you'll have the money ready for any repairs.

IMO any car with the odometer reading combine with Uber/Lyft usage will/may eventually encounter engine/mechanical problems. You didn't have hybrid related issue, you had an automotive issue.

Yes, any car with average to above average use subjected to commercial type use will be more likely to need a repair.

But like I said previously on this thread, someone was just waiting for the OP’s car to show up on the lot. There’s a newb or a long time follower that has just been waiting to get their hands on that car to fix it up.
