2013 Prius Two Touch Sterero w/out Nav Bluetooth Pairing Issue

Hey guys, I just got a Prius, my first Prius and I am stoked to join the club. Anyway, I got a 2013 Prius Two and it came stock with the touch stereo without navigation and I am having difficulty pairing the phone for streaming audio. My phone is a Droid Razr and plays music through Google Play and I have found it possible to get the music to play, but I cannot control my music through the head-unit. I can go forward or backward in a playlist, but I can not move into new artists and such. Is this the way the stereo works? Any help?
