The repair manual can definitely provide a lot of advice on diagnosing the evap system. So can some other quick technical guides and technician course materials also available on TIS for no additional cost.

Evap system diagnosis can be kind of involved, and there can be some rather specialized tools for it (such as very carefully designed low-pressure regulators for an inert (!!) test gas like nitrogen).

You are smelling gas. Go look for it before getting too technical.

Oh, I missed the post about smelling gas, 'cause it was pretty far upthread.

Bunch of posts after it wondering why the codes haven't gone away, but if there's still a gas smell, that's why.

If you aren't using an original gas cap from Toyota, that could be a very good reason why you're smelling gas. The aftermarket stuff is not very good.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I ordered a Toyota gas cap, hopefully that solves the 2 codes. If it persists, I will take it to a shop and they can lift and hopefully find a leak.

Took it to a shop and they said it’s the purge valve. They replaced the purge valve and after 2 days the check engine light turned back on. Not sure if they are crooks or if that was one of the issues.

I'm not sure what that means; is the current gas cap on the car stock Toyota, or?
    Could be.

Backing up: you replaced the gas cap? Due to defect in the original, or it got lost?

I'd get the Toyota cap first, say from a dealership, see if that helps.

    Ok, see you're on that.

I replaced the gas cap for an original, still didn’t help.
