Pictures of the IS and IS-F Sport have been out for a while now, but with the reveal in Geneve we are also beginning to see the stats. It appears that the new hybrid is tuned for power and fuel economy.

    From Lexus.de (German Lexus site):
    Power: 220HP
CO2: 99g/km (makes it eligible to free entry to downtown London)
Fuel economy: 4.3l/100km or 69mpg US (remember, though, that this is the pulling-numbers-out-of-your-arse European fuel economy cycle)
    Acceleration (1-100km/h): 8.3s
    Top speed: 200km/h

I would like to compare it to the ES300h, Camry or Avalon hybrids, but since they aren't available in Europe, the best I can do is the CT200h and GS450h:

    Fuel economy/CO2:
    CT200h: 3.8l/100km, 87g/km
    GS450h: 5.9l/100km, 137g/km

    Power:
    CT200h: 134HP
    GS450h: 292HP

The GS impressed reviewers by pulling 2.13HP/g of CO2. The CT gets only 1.54 in comparison, while the new IS gets a record new 2.22 horsepower from every gram of CO2! I'm looking forward to see this car in action :)

Do you have details of the hybrid system? It seems like a modified one from the camry, using the the new more efficient 2.5L DI engine.

That is my guess as well, but I don't have more stats yet.

It would have to be substantially different in packaging at least. The Camry and Avalon are transverse mounted (FWD) while the IS is longitudinally mounted (RWD). The DI 2.5L sounds nice. Maybe less high revving required at moderate acceleration for better NHV.

If this comes to the US, I'll definitely be swapping my Prius v for one when my lease is up (and my daughter is out of a rear facing car seat - the v is a great family hauler for a single kid family).

Toyota claims the new engine is 38.5% efficient too, as well as improved low end smoothness and top end power. I knew it was RWD, but have they simplified the layout from the GS -

I Hope Lexus will change their mind. I think from the description my brother would trade his camry hybrid for this car if they brought it over. Lexus is building that whole new line for the ES in Kentucky though.

If the IS300h finally becomes the breakthrough vehicle of Lexus in Europe, and ES300h becomes the best selling ES in US, it would puzzle me if they didn't consider offering the IS300h in the US as well.
