I have seen this one for sale at a local dealer. Carfax shows 4 previous owners and damage reported to the rear, unspecified. Otherwise, looks good.

I totaled my truck and I have around $10K to invest in a car. This one being 2015 has the newer pistons and rings and possibly still a CARB warranty on the hybrid battery.

It has nearly 160K according to the last Carfax reading. I haven't heard back from dealer yet with actual mileage. Cannot be too much above that.

is this a good buy? Thanks!

2015, 4 owners, rear collision, 160,000+ miles, not a Toyota Dealer...this will be an "AS-IS" sale.

    I'm seeing flags from here.

Yes indeed. Buying from a toyota dealer would be at least 5K more, in my estimation.

Price is actually 9K plus tags and registration/tax.

Here is the actual carfax for the vehicle:

Toyota Dealership would not sell that vehicle...even AS-IS. To many miles and damaged...which isn't reflected on the CARFAX by the way. I'm not there, but based only on what you have stated, I would walk away. You can do better for less. Wish you the best.

In your shoes I would rather buy a lower mile Corolla or Camry given that budget.

    CARB expired, over 150,000 miles.

Good suggestion given the high cost of newer low mileage Prii.

I just like the hybrid approach, low maintenance and durability of the Prius .

The lowest mileage I've seen in this price range is a 2013 with 68k miles up in the LA area.

9 year old car with 160k and unknown accident damage a good buy?

that's a tough call, i guess it depends on the market.

How does a 2015 have 160,000 miles? I have a 2011 with 125,000. I’d say pass on that car, and keep searching. That just sounds fishy to me. I would never buy a car with high mileage and more than one owner. You should be able to find some options through dealers that are lease returns, that would have fewer miles and still be a good deal.

I met a medical delivery guy out here that put 320k miles on his 2015 before a truck sideswiped it:eek:.

Has a 2017 now with about 40 k miles and he’s only delivering on the side now;).

But mice got to the wiring harness so it’s been out of commission too:cool:.

    He’s a Prii fan(y).

Yes, I went to car gurus website and have been looking at others with less mileage. I may be able to haggle down to my price range on some of these as they seem to be selling slowly. I guess everybody wants SUVs and trucks nowadays...

I have seen a few 2015's with low miles (35K to 50k miles) in the $13K range. I may be able to bring them down to $11K or so cash in hand.

I also saw a 2013 with 76K miles for $10475. That could be haggled down even lower as it shows as slow selling on Car Gurus...

I know I could get a Camry or Corolla, but I prefer the Prius. I have a 2008 driven by my girlfriend with 270K miles on it, with only regular maintenance!

There are several 2012 and 2013s local with 110k-130k for $8k asking; you should be able to easily get a 2012-2015 Prius with under 100k miles, no accidents, for $10k. As said, the one you mentioned just has too many red flags.

Agreed. I will do my best to get a low mileage one for 10K.

The market in SoCal is really crazy in this price range. Most low mileage 2015 Prii are in the Los Angeles area and are lease returns with manufacturer's warranty. Prices are in the high $13K range. I found a lone one at $11.2K with 23K miles, but dealer seems iffy. Need to investigate further.

The other 2015's fall in the high $10K to $11K, but they are 100K miles or so. One of these is offered by a Toyota dealer in the desert, others by less reputable small dealerships.

I have also looked at some non Prius offerings and a 2016 Hyundai Tucson for 10K is mighty tempting. High miles though (94K). It is sold by a Jeep Chrysler dealer. Carfax checks good, one personal owner, no accidents, etc.
