I have a new Prius Plug In, less than a week old. This morning I started the car and it told me the charge had been interrupted and that I didn't get a full charge. And then I get the "Check Hybrid System" light with the big old exclamation point. I drove it to work, which was 30 miles. It had charged enough I got about 6.5 miles on the EV.

Should I just unplug the battery for a few seconds, or should I take it in to the dealer and have them look at it?

    Welcome!
Take your PiP back to the dealer. "Check Hybrid System" is not normal.

I wondered if that might be the issue. I haven't been able to plug it in yet. I will report back after I plug it in.

The power to your EVSE most likely that was interrupted some how, hence the warning sign in the vehicle

That would be a "Charge Interrupted" message. She got a "Check Hybrid System" message.

I get my charging interrupted every now and then for various reasons. However, never ever did I get "Check Hybrid System", neither the yellow triangle with exclamation mark. Only thing I ever got was "Charging interrupted" message when starting PiP. The message stays on screen for a couple of minutes and can be dismissed by DISP button. Exactly as rxlawdude explained.

Actually, there are two kinds of "Charging interrupted" messages:

    1. If you unplug charger from PiP first, you get: "Charging interrupted due to charger operation".
    2. If you unplug from the wall first, you get: "Charging interrupted due to the power outage".

Or something like that. I can't recall literaly, but notice the difference according to the unplug sequence.
Never the less, "Check hybrid system" is not something owner of a PiP could reproduce by holding his left ear with his right hand while touching his nose, doing three spins standing on the left leg and spelling "Toyota" backwards. ;) It's a "take me to the dealer" kind of message.

I wouldn't recommend disconnecting the 12v battery in this situation for two reasons.
It's a brand new car and if it's a lemon you want to find out as soon as possible. (I'm in NO way suggesting the car might be a lemon ) And the car will most likely fix itself, anyway :)
If you disconnect the 12V battery you will loose any or all the freeze data stored when the incident happened, making it near impossible for anyone using
tech stream or another diagnostics package to see the freeze data if there is any freeze data for the incident.

you don't lose the diagnostic codes when the 12 volt is disconnected.

I pulled out the plug too fast once, saw a white spark, got the same messages as you. They went away after awhile, and haven't appeared since.

It's not normal to get the "Check Hybrid System" message. At the very least, even if I suspect there is nothing wrong, I would still take it in to the dealer and let them run a diagnostic. Ask them to quick charge your car and see if there is a problem.

That's a new one. How long has that been the case? And is it for all gen3 prius or just with the PiP?
