Hello! Has anyone tried fitting a 2015 tail light assembly onto the older cars? Any reason why it wouldn't work?

EDIT: Change is complete! Here is a guide:

    Part #'s:
    8156152d10 left tail light assembly
    8155152d10 right tail light assembly
    8155152d00 wire harness (you'll need 2)

    1. Open the trunk and remove the two bolts. Firmly grasp the assembly and pull it out.

    2. With the wire harness tucked in you'll notice its best to remove the bulbs and the clip so you can disconnect the assembly completely. (Picture 1 - blue arrows for the bulbs/ led connector)

    3. Disconnect the wire harness/bulbs by pulling out the rubber seal. With the seal pulled out you do have some give to pull on the wire a bit more, revealing the connector. Push the tab and disconnect. (Picture 2)

    4. Take your new wire harness and connect on your old bulbs/ new leds. There is one extra bulb on the old assembly that is unneeded in the new one. It is the tail light in the middle. All of the old bulbs work with the new assembly. (Picture 3 - I picked up some stuff from Diode Dynamics. If you get a back up light keep in mind you want a 921 bulb and NOT a 7440 as the site suggests.)

    5. Connect the wire harness to the car end and tuck in the connector. Place the rubber seal and connect the bulbs to the new assembly. Keep in mind there are wire holders on the new assembly for you to neatly tuck the wires in. Push your assembly in until you hear the clicks and test your lights. If everything's good you can put the bolts back on. All finished! (Picture 4)

I dont believe anybody has tried it yet. From all the looking around Ive done, it doesn't seem the tails are interchangeable. I haven't done any real life looking or testing so I can completely be wrong.

On that note, if anybody has a 2015 in NY and would let me check to see if the new tails fit the previous C would be great! Thanks

I really like the new taillights and was also wondering whether they'd be a direct swap into previous model.

They are interchangeable, finding a site that shows the 2015 light in their fiche vs the older light is impossible so hard to just order from say trd sparks and KNOW it's the updated housing.

Every site shows same part number for 2014 and older as well as 2015 and the pic is of 2014 older. Going to have to go into a dealer and get the real part number and or order. Kind of tired of my Spyder lights. Wonder if these new housings are bake able or not like the older ones useless pieces arent.

What are you doing with the 15 style taillights?

So I did some digging and the cheapest I was able to find a (1) side was $156 brand new. Not sure what the rules are for posting links so if you want the info just PM me. I have the part number for the left drivers side. You will need to get the part number for the right passenger side.

Got the parts in and realized after taking out the older tail lights that NO it is not plug and play or the same.

    088.JPG 089.JPG

First one is the older one. There is the top bulb for the blinker, middle for the brake + led attachment? , bottom for reverse.
The newer one has the same placement for the blinker and the reverse, but the middle is completely different with a single connector for the built in led's. Not sure what to do. I can see if the wiring can be changed, but then that means I would have to open up the inside rear panels to test it. -frustrating-

It's very easy pop out the light harness from the quarter panel. There is another plug so you'll need that other mini harness as well

Where did you get the new lights? I was looking online and every toyota parts supplier has the same part numbers listed as older years as well as a pic of the older style.

Too much work for me lol.

If it were plug n play then I'd be all over it.

it is 100% plug n play...
there is a wiring harness from the lens to the car. the 12-14 use a different harness than the 15... it's 2x.xx dollars...

Just like when you buy aftermarket lights they come with their own harness...

Difference is the stock housings when bought as parts do not have the harness. they expect you to be replacing a damaged part, not swapping to a new thing. so the harness is sold seperately. They way to do it is wait to buy them used.merged use multiquote

Not at all. You remove two bolts and 1 clip. Nothing torn apart at all.

I know how to remove the taillight assembly. What about the harness? It's been a while since I've been in there. TWSS.
