The Auxiliary battery failed two weeks ago. Took the car to the dealer and was told I needed a new one. Service advisor informed me that the battery is a "Dealer Item" and I can not get it anywhere else. Left the place $451. lighter.
A couple days later I did some searching online and I see several places that claim the battery they sell will fit the 2016 Prius for half the cost.
I would like to hear from those that have replaced the battery from a "Parts house".
Please provide brand, CCA, cost and any other pertinent information.
For instance, Batteries Plus claims the have two batteries that will fit.

Hi - welcome. There has been some discussion - I can't say I stored it in my memory - but if you do a search for something like "Gen 4 12 Volt battery", you will find some threads.

I'm not sure if CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) is a totally relevant point, as it does no Cold Cranking - all actual cranking is done by the Traction Battery.

But check for previous discussions - and hopefully those involved will chime in with information.

The dealer replaced my faulty battery under warranty - just a standard off-the-shelf 45AH battery.

The original poster in that thread (@Edward Kennedy) never told us what battery he finally installed. Perhaps I missed it, but I can’t recall a report on PriusChat that a specific, third-party battery sold in the U.S. was successfully installed in a fourth-generation Prius. That’s not to say it wouldn’t work, of course, just that no one has actually done so and reported it here.

Regarding the warranty, see my posting in this thread.

I guess I should mention that the car had 97xxx miles when the battery went out. It was past warranty. I drive for Uber and Lyft. I have put 79630 miles on it since I purchased it used with 18xxx miles on it in February of 2017.

Hummm, more I read about 12v battery for Prius, I am starting to worry about very high replacement cost in future. Is there something special about Gen4 (which I suppose includes Prime) 12 v battery? I've never heard of $450 for 12 v battery replacement.

On March 18, 2020, the 84 month warrantied battery was purchased from Toyota dealer for $176 + tax. Anyone who paid $451 foro a battery alone got ripped off. AutoZone had a 36 month battery for $139, but we wanted a longer warranty. The original 2016 Prius IV battery was a 36 month battery.
