Hi all - ordered a new 2017 Prius Technology in Canada back in the end of April. Been waiting pretty patiently and was told that the delivery would've been this weekend. Got on another call today and was told that the cars are being held in port in Vancouver without much reason given. Was curious if anyone else in the forum is experiencing something similar.

Seems like a long time to wait. I guess they're all factory ordered?

Well it's possible they're just waiting for a shipment so they ship all Ontario cars at the same time??

It'll take a week to get it to Concord by train plus a day or two to truck it from Concord to your dealership so if they told you today that it's at the Port of Vancouver and will be in Ontario this weekend, it seems highly unlikely.

But otherwise, we've heard from a few places that it appears to be factory-order only, even in Prius-friendly Vancouver.

For reference, it will take about a month to build and ship your Toyota from Japan to Vancouver. Then you add transit time from Vancouver to wherever you are.

Thanks for the quick reply, Tideland. That's good insight.

That's interesting. I was told a month, initially, and it seems that they've been receiving factory orders consistently. Which trim did you get?

I ordered PRIUS TECHNOLOGY with Advanced Package, Harvest beige interior and blizzard pearl exterior.
It is also lease, not a financing if it makes a difference in delivery time....

IIRC that nixes the spare and has a sunroof? Both of those factors are fustrations for me: haven't the slightest inclination to get sunroof, and missing spare is deal breaker. And not enamoured with the latest iteration of a 17" rim either.

But would love to have the peripheral vision detection stuff. Maybe next gen will loosen things up, who knows.

Or wait for the midlife update. That's usually when packages get shuffled (like it did in 2012)

Yeah I was thinking of that too. Hopefully any tweaks will be positive.

I'm just armchair shopping, not really serious.

It's always going to be positive for someone and negative for someone else :)

But I know what you mean. TCI has a record of making interesting packaging decisions. (Yaris sedan, 8th Gen Corolla, 2nd Gen Matrix to name a few)

Has the US Gen 4 had 2 mid-lifes already?
They changed for 2017 & again for 2017.5, even adding a trim level at the lower end and options for the Two..

No, those are not midlife updates. They're just packages and minor equipment changes.

Midlife updates usually constitute changes to the exterior and interior, in addition to adding/deleting/repackaging features to keep it looking fresh. The easiest changes are usually different bumper designs which may or may not change the headlight design. Previously, taillights would change in the sense that indicators that had yellow lens became clear or vice versa. Sometimes they switch position with the tail/brake lights. Foglights would change in shape from round to rectangular or rectangular to round - stuff like that.

Interior usually includes different trim accent (changing between bright silver, satin silver, piano black, carbon fibre trim, changing up the wood trim style/colour, new radio/entertainment units)

Mendel, that is where the most serious shopping gets done. Every time!

Miss that part out and the heart tends to overrule the head. Not that such a thing ever happens with me, of course
