    I hope someone else is experiencing the same thing I am or has heard about this problem:

    1) Car is only 2 months old;
    2) Noise only happens when I accelerate;
    3) Noise only lasts between 4-10 seconds;
    4) Noise is isolated to the back of the car.

    I have driven this car for a few months only and this noise is becoming more and more pronounced. It only starts when the speed is reaching upwards of 10 mph and goes away after 10 seconds. No impact on mileage and on performance. I am new to the Prius so I am wondering if this is something the car does when distributing gas/battery power.

    Any insights are appreciated.

    welcome!
    if it is becoming more and more pronounced, it can't be normal. take it to the dealer and have them test drive it with you. and test drive another one on the lot to compare. all the best!(y)

    I have a 17 4 touring . I don't hear noises from back. But when car is started for first time and immediately driven I have engine knocking noises that go away after a min or so. Dealer can't identify.

    The noise on my car only presents itself when I accelerate and it is a very low and whizzing noise that always goes away. No knocking noises for me. I hope they can identify yours soon.

    I drove my brother's Prius 2 today to see if his presents the same noise and to my shock and surprise his dies the same too but it is a lot more subdued than my car and more infrequent. I am assuming that because my car has tires that are wider and closer to the ground, the noise amplifies. I think this noise is caused during the distribution of battery/gas. As suggested, I will continue to monitor it and when my 5K visit comes up, I will mention it to the dealer. Thank you again for your time and great suggestions.

    if this is your first hybrid, they make a lot of funny noises, even though very quiet at times.
    the only thing that doesn't make sense is that you didn't notice it in the beginning, and it has gotten louder.
    but perhaps you have simply become more sensitive and aware.

    I'm guessing that what the OP is hearing is normal? I hear something very similar, perhaps not as pronounced as his. I still enjoy hearing all the various spaceship sounds. The technology is very interesting. But after 16 months of ownership, the whizzes and buzzes and dings just kind of blend into the background and I don't notice them as often. I actually wish they were louder. :)
