    More excitement, tank 2 calculated.

    1/3 tank fuel gauge displayed
    Lifetime average 49.7 MPG
    Trip 523.5 miles
    Range 128 miles
    Tank average displayed 54.2 MPG

    $23.71
    10.137 Gallons

51.64 MPG calculated vs 54.2 MPG displayed.
    or 4.9% optimistic

The first tank showed a similar difference between calculated and displayed with the displayed figure being slightly optimistic.

    Tank 1 was:
52.7 MPG at the pump vs 55.0 MPG displayed
    or 4.3% optimistic

Excellent performance for a new new car! Should get even better with tire wear and warmer temps.

    Please continue to report.

BTW - My wife and I have a new Camry Hybrid LE on special order to arrive sometime in late March!

For full disclosure I think temps are pushing the MPGs down. The reason the lifetime is lower is that when I took delivery of the car the salesman spent a good deal of time showing me the features of the vehicle sitting still, with the engine on, in the cold (there was a bit of snow on the car when I bought it).

On the other hand I have an easy commute and while I tend to drive "normally" on the way to work I drive in a special way to maximize MPGs on the way home from work. An average commuter is not going to achieve the figures I'm reporting. I could easily see someone getting in the thirties if they had a lot of cold and traffic to deal with. My mileage would be in the mid forties (in the current weather) if I drove "normal" but even that would be better than most because my commute is easier than most. Warmer weather should improve things.

People with easy commutes, warm weather and who are not in a hurry will easily beat EPA.

People dealing with a lot of traffic, cold weather and who are in a hurry will come in less than EPA estimates.

    Thanks!

It will be my wife's car, so I hope that she likes it. :) I'm just the maintenance and technical support guy. :(

When the new Camry arrives, we'll have to sell "my" beloved 2010 Prius, and the 2013 Tacoma will become the unit that I drive. My wife drives much more than I do, so this will work out fine, I keep telling myself. :)

Sell the Taco & keep the Prius?
I have a 2000 Tundra but it is not a daily driver.

If I could tow a horse trailer with the Prius, I would keep it in a heartbeat! :)

There is this thing I've not seen talked about anywhere else before (perhaps because it isn't so important) so you are getting the inside scoop. Back in the day cars had a hump down the center of the car, a pretty big one as I recall to allow for a driveshaft to go from the engine in front to the wheels in back. Front wheel drive has eliminated the need for a hump, which is pretty cool. The floor can be perfectly flat nowadays.

The Camry has a little hump in the center of the rear floor. I didn't like the hump at first but I've changed my tune. My child uses it to help climb into the car seat for one thing. The other thing I really like is that stuff does not slide around from one side of the car to the other so much. I've got a plastic tote with emergency stuff like jumper cables and an air pump. The tote fits perfectly on one side of the hump and the hump helps it stay put. I love the little hump!

Do you have additional photos you can share of the camry? I have also read the xle doesn't get as good of fuel economy as the LE. Is that correct?

That is correct. The battery is different and, I believe the LE has steelie wheels. They wanted to match the mpg of the Gen 4 Prius, I believe. If that were available when I bought my Prius I probably would have chosen the Camry based on my experience with our 1996 gasser.

Most cars still have a 'transmission' hump to some degree for the exhaust and catalytic converters.
Yes, and its mostly do to weight and wheels. The upper trims have larger, heavier wheels, which is the worse place to add weight on a car. The US LE hybrid actually comes with steel wheels smaller than the ICE LE's that help bump the MPG to 50. The Canadian LE has the same wheel sized alloys between ICE and Hybrid, and the hybrid has a lower MPG rating than the US model.

That gray car is just a picture stolen off the internet, not even my model. I'll clean the car and take some pics, maybe this weekend.

There is alcohol in your windshield washing fluid.

I use rubbing alcohol to take the outside layer of degraded wiper material off, and it extends the life of the wiper.

    Newest tank:

    50.8 Lifetime MPG
    527.7 miles
    55.3 MPG displayed tank
    $23.05
    10.026 gallons

52.6 MPG calculated vs 55.3 displayed.

There has been a similar pattern for all the tanks so far with the display being a tad optimistic.

    Tank 1 was:
52.7 MPG at the pump vs 55.0 MPG displayed
    or 4.3% optimistic

    Tank 2 was:
51.64 MPG calculated vs 54.2 MPG displayed.
    or 4.9% optimistic

    and Tank 3 was:
52.6 MPG calculated vs 55.3 displayed.
    or 5.1% optimistic

4.75% high on the display average so far...

    Very encouraging!

My 2010 Prius onboard computer is about 5% optimistic as well. I wish there was a way to fine-tune the onboard computer to be more accurate.

@bwilson4web did that on one Prius by calculating the tire outside diameter needed and replacing the tires, IIRC.
