Featured 2018 Nissan Leaf pricing, power leaked online

    range if full, maybe 56/60 miles turning on temperature - i've never gone below 8 miles remaining, so far at least .... vin ending __000659, it's nearing 80k odometer miles, down 4 bars. 8 bars remaining.
    We would NEVER get another btand new air cooled EV. But used?
    Due to low prices on used ones, a co-worker bought a 5-year-old one for only $6K on my recommendation.

    Are Leaf's selling for more now? When I was looking there were a ton in that price range and lower throughout the country.

    i do not know if it's more, or they are just more around here. i'm seeing a lot of low mile 2015's for 10-12 on dealer websites.

    After reading the 2018 Leaf range is 150 miles, I wondered about how it fit in the market:

    The "Y" axis is EV range and the "X" the number of EV cars in each year. The new Leaf is the bridge between the short range, daily driver EVs and the long range, intra-city EVs.

    The sub 100 mile range BEVs are likely going to fade away at this time. Over 100 has the a psychological and marketing advantage. People feel they need more range than they actually do.

    Even with the small battery in the Volt, I'm still averaging 75% EV. ;)

    even with the smaller pip battery, i'm at 66% ev, and climbing.

    In a PHEV, the battery is going to be more fully utilized than the one in a BEV. People want longer ranges and bigger batteries in BEVs because they don't want to be left waiting at a charger, worry about range loss because of weather, still have usable range as the battery ages, or to have 'just in case'. This leads to them getting a BEV with a battery that is larger than they truly need, and not using the full capacity. With an ICE back up, those aren't concerns, and the driver is free to use up all the grid charge in a day without worry.

    At that price point, it won't do well in the US market versus the model 3, bolt, i3, prime, volt, clarity phev ;-). The 60kwh one, well we have to see how they price it, and if they update the interior. One of the car mags gave it high marks for its autopilot software, but low marks for the interior and range.

    Now in japan, without competition from the american and german cars, it probably will do much better ;-) Europe, idk, my guess is good for a year or two, then badly if they don't drop the price or do other improvements.

    Anyone hear if the traction pack is only air cooled?

    143 miles of range "IF' .....
    if temps aren't below 50°f
    (otherwise knock off ~ 10% range)
    if driving on flat ground
    (otherwise knock off ~ 10% range)
    if NOT driving 75mph +
    (otherwise knock off ~ 10% range)
    if traction pack is 20k miles old or more
    (otherwise knock off ~ 10% range)
    If driving extra 12k mile amounts beyond initial 20k
    (otherwise knock off ~ 10% range)

    BAM now you got another 75mile leaf ...
    enjoy being a member of the 80% depreciation club .... and welcome!

    Good point about the 'price-performance' data:
    I had briefly thought about including the MSRP from the EPA web site but it is a manual process. I could not find a machine readable file with all the data for each car at www.fueleconomy.com.

    Well, I just traded in my Leaf, got 9k for it. I feel lucky!! It was a 2014, with the 24kW battery.it was rated MPGe at 84 miles range...I think. Plus the battery was down 1 PIP. Realistic miles in Los Angeles with hills Freeways, and idiots, maybe 65 to 75 miles, if you were lucky. Plus you had better have a charge station in the area you are going to if your 1 way trip was over 40 miles! When I leave the house, the car sits at 80 miles range, when I get to work, it sits around 65 - 72 miles left... With charge point stations at the studio where I work in Hollywood, I can charge up to 92 miles... when I drive the 12 miles home, the mileage is just about 47 left. 45 miles of "range" chewed up and spit out, and this is simply a 750 foot rise going uphill on city street driving. Using the Freeway eats more, 50 - 58 miles.... home again, back on the charger!
    The new Leaf with 150 mile range will fare about 125ish maybe miles, and 100 realistic miles in the Foothills & on the Freeway! At least put a 240 mile battery in, of course you will spend 1/2 a day charging it up to get that 240 miles. I have only so many years left, I don't want to spend a bunch of them charging batteries!
    This is the only reason I came back to the world of Hybrids...
    After trying Gas / Hybrid / EV, Hybrid wins the current round! My new Niro gets average 50 MPG, will go 600 miles with proper Hypermiling, and recharges in 4 minutes when you put 11.9 gallons of gas into it! To me, living in Los Angeles, this seems the best choice for transportation savings....
    Anyways, I will admit, except for that minor battery / range / charging time thing, I absolutely loved that car... it rocked! I thoroughly enjoyed driving it, so quiet, smooth, fun. It did teach me that pricey options are a good thing, that's why I got all of them in my Niro!

    I'm sorry you skipped plug-in hybrid. Our BMW i3-REx is a nice ride too with comfortable EV range, +70 mi, and equal gas, +70 mi. Loaded, used ones are in the low $20k range.

    Living in a small Southern town, our Prius Prime EV works but it might not do for typical LA distances ... well we do get +56 MPG with ordinary cruise control driving.

    Yes the 40 kwh pack is electrically heated and air cooled.

    The 60 kwh pack? That may indeed be liquid conditioned for heating and cooling. I have no idea if this source is right about chemistry and supplier of the pack
