    Well given that the 2019 Prius may include D-4S and a slight mpg improvement, I suspect the PHV/Prime will get the same engine improvements and the rumoured battery improvements. This could be used to offset the heavier car for 5-passenger seat or it could remain a 4-seater with better acceleration and mpg.

    I'm still hoping for a sub-10 second 0-60mph. Practically all other EVs/BEVs accelerate faster and 10/12 seconds HV/EV is embarrassing (and that's with just the driver - load it up and it'll be more like 12/14 I'm guessing)

    What do you mean by given? Is it known there will be a change in the 2019? If so, i may hold off until then. Also, whats is the D-4S, is that a battery?

    There will always be a reason to hold off—underscore updates. The one bought in 2019 will be usurped by the 2021 model and so on. I’m glad I went for the awesome deal on the 2017 a month ago—now when I look in my rear view mirror, I no longer see Benjamins $$$ floating out of my car LOL!

    D-4S is a hybrid port and direct injection for the engine. The engines in the new Camry has it, and there is also a new 2.0L hybrid system with it coming. IIRC, going into the Auris and Corolla hybrids.
    Instead of giving the Prius that new system, Toyota will likely just make slight changes to the current 1.8L, like the D-4S

    The same article with the mock drawings of the 2019 in purple (you may have seen that thread around PC) also mentions the possible changes for the Prius. These changes are likely to make it to the Prime since they share most Hybrid components.

    The 2019 Prius will likely undergo a midlife update. It remains to be seen if the Prime will be updated as well or it will go another’s year before a midlife update.

    Trollbait already mentioned the D4-S system

    It is possible the Prime won't get D4-S if the Prius does.
    The Prime is lower volume and buyers mainly choose it over the Prius for the EV side. The new injection system doesn't add to that, and keeping the old is likely lower cost to Toyota.

    Well it's not a before and after. The right photo is just a special edition of the Prime. The L-shaped crease matches the one found on the front - helps with unity (tying the front and rear looks together - similar to the Gen 2 Prius). The crease also happens to be found on some supercars. Of course, where the Prime has the indicators and reflectors, on the supercar, those are vents or airflow management areas.

    Well no. The right one is a production model called the Prius PHV GR Sports and is only available in Japan.

    We don't know what the midlife update of the Prime will look like and what they will do with those lights. Recall that they want to differentiate between the regular Prius and the Prime. But if the 2019 Prius is rumoured to look like the Prime (it'll get the quad LED headlights and the Z taillights will be replaced with a C-shaped one), then the Prime must see a change in the lighting design to keep that gap.

    Have a look at an image of the entire Prime GR. It is actually a very attractive car... most people might say better looking than the regular Prime.
