I ran our garage door into the hatch more times than I care to admit. Luckily the garage door would jump its tracks (slightly) and damage was light.

They were solid wood doors, west facing, and the garage got suffering hot in summer afternoons. Changed them to foam-core steel last fall, big improvement. And…, the design is more compact, enough that the door misses the open hatch, by about 3 inches. The emergency release cord drags over the hatch, but no big deal.

It is a 10’ ceiling, helps.

Also, don't load groceries with the seats down. Otherwise, when you brake, they fly and fall all over the place, eggs braking etc.
