Not real comfortable now that I found out the hard way, that my Prius does not have a spare. I would like to find the smallest wheel/tire to purchase to have one. I presume some "donut" spare from another model would be my best option. Any ideas?

The closest donut I could find is the spare from a 2018 Subaru Impreza Base model. But it is not a tall as the original tires on my car (165/65-R15). Eventually I settled buying a spare from EZ-Spare Wheel. It is a T125/80R17 tire mounted on a 5x100 bolt pattern, 40 mm offset, 17x4 aluminum wheel painted in red. It includes Torx wheel lugs. The only inconvenience is that the 17 mm Torx driver for the new lug nuts is not compatible with the Toyota lug wrench that came with the car that is 21 mm. Anyway, I intend to bring an impact wrench with the right socket sizes whenever I carry this spare in the car.

Unfortunately; everyone got the memo on that one. Everyone I found was overpriced and the size differential/spare requirements wasn't that far off. I just got a cheap steel rim and saved the best tire of my 4 tire replacement. Mounted & balanced it for another $20. It was half the cost of what junkyards and Ebay wanted for one shipped to my house.
$70 all in; toss it in the trunk when I'm on a long trip.

PS: make sure you've got your tire change hardware; jack & lug wrench accessories. I understand that is also being deleted from new cars.

You can use any gen 4 or gen 3 temp spare. The gen 4 is 17", gen 3 is 16". The OD of the gen 3 16" is closer to the stock 195/65R15, just maybe 1/8" less, and accordingly would be my preference. Both temp tire sizes are spec'd in their prospective Owner's Manuals, towards the back.

Easiest way to find either is download pdf version of Owner's Manual (available at toyota tech info, for one), and search for "195/65R15" (the stock tire size). The temp spare size will also be shown, in the vicinity. Anyway, here's a summary, with tire sizes from owner's manual, and Toyota part no's from Amayama (I'd go straight to Toyota USA parts website, but it's been totally useless since the "improvements" 2~3 years back):

    Gen 4:
    tire size: T125/70D17 98M
    rim p/n: 42611-47630 or 42611-47631

    Gen 3:
    tire size: T135/80D16 101M
    rim p/n: 42611-20A50

@Hammersmith might chime in, at least to vet the gen 4 info above; he's researched it extensively.

My 2017 Prius trim 2, with a spacesaver spare tire was scrapped last month. PM me and I can try & put you in contact with the yard where it ended up. You should also get the styrofoam inserts for the cargo area. From this car, you may want the rubber Toyota floor & cargo mats.
