    2023 N Atlantic hurricane season is winding down and its large events have been discussed upthread. We are in need of someone to summarize the year of global storms. They were quite bad overall.

    Acapulco Mexico is digging out after H. Otis. That one will get in the books for having intensified from tropical storm to Cat 5 in less than 24 hours. No models anticipated it.\

    Rapid intensification attracts gloom/doom media coverage because it might be connected to global climate change. I see it more as a challenge to get a large and more capable fleet of look-down satellites into earth orbit. Earth orbit for global internet makes money, and for global meteorology reduces the loss of money and lives. Do both, right?
