    Hello,

It has begun. I was checking for inventory on the 2023 Toyota Prius and well... the markups have begun. And uhhh yeah it is sickening to see.

So far in my area they've taken an XLE version and slapped on essentially a $10,000 dollar dealer mark up on the units. This puts the Prius into the $800 dollars a month for 72 months category.

I can see $7,000 to $10,000 mark ups for that dealership. Maybe it is to steer their current customers to buy up older inventory. But it is disappointing to see.

Can't find any legit window stickers displayed online yet. What have you guys seen so far?

$40K+ for a Prius? You could buy a base Model 3 for less, or use the same money for a used V8 and say FY to the planet.
The dealers can hold on to the cars as long as they want. It is a C platform economy little Toyota after all. None of the reliability matters if the price is not right.

I did an inventory search and I see several Prius vehicles in build stage for So Cal region. Went to Huntington Beach Toyota and asked a sales guy a few questions dude was stand offish and had no interest in helping me out. Little does he know I'm in the market for a new car so he blew his shot at my business. Looks like the XLE are the most built Prius out of the three trims.

If dealers can sell them while they're still on the ship, there must be plenty of willing buyers out there...even at marked-up prices.

I haven't seen any $10k markups though. Which dealer was that?

As on my other post mine is $5K markups at Toyota of Orange in Orange County SoCal.

I already made a deposit of $500, just wait for the car to deliver to them.

These are in San Jose, CA - Bay Area dealers. Stevens Creek, Dublin Toyota and a few others. Actually most of the dealers up here have one most models marked up. If there is a SmartPath logo, it is likely marked up. Not smart at all.

I saw some other eye raising things too. Like a few of the dealers mark-up lower trim models but they slap on all the exterior trims that they could find. Even side skirts. Then they slap on a $10,000 dollar dealer mark-up including the added accessory trims. No premium packages.

    Like Wth.....

All horrible dealer practices. Just makes me want to keep mine for 30 years and forget about this era of automobiles.

The only Bay Area dealers I can find selling at MSRP is Toyota Sunnyvale and Toyota 101 (Redwood City). One Toyota (Oakland) is also MSRP but wait time can be 2+ years "without" trade in.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong. I think anyone who pays over sticker is crazy, specially if they're paying over sticker for a base model with a body kit:)

I guess a lot of them will be hoping for a quick flip while the market is hot, like this guy and his Civic Type R:

They aren't ready to let these first units roll off the lot to 'regular' customers. The first or few units are for buyers who have too much money and absolutely must be the first in town to have one to show off. 'Regular' customers wanting to pay reasonable prices, can wait until there is a more steady supply that doesn't leave the showroom floor empty.

In October I ordered an LE trim for MSRP at Longo Toyota with a $500 deposit. I was told I would get the car this summer. I talked to Martha.

I'd wait, too when there is a glut and supply exceeds demand.

But can you predict that will be the case? ‘Wait for RAV4 Primes still stretch into the years- at least where I am. Who’s to day that the Prius will be different?

No...I think he is standoffish because he does not need your business...He knows there are 1000 customers waiting in line to fill the spot when you leave. Its hardly "selling" anything these days. America is flush with cash and credit but physical items like cars and houses are expensive & harder to come by with that paper....no matter how much you have.

Meh, they have no idea when you will get it. I ordered a Prius Prime SE in February last year. Toyota so far has delivered only one Prius LE out of the 100 Priuses it has delivered to the US, and the rest are almost all XLE, with about five Limited trims. Longo Toyota will get only one Prius this month, and it it will be an XLE.

I’ll tell that to my friend who, 2 years in, has no idea when he’ll be getting a Prime.

That is like saying that we can only hope for a major earthquake in LA so that we could buy a house. ;)
