205/40r18's....anyone?

    I've got some B&G springs in the mail and I'm already thinking about the next step. I'd like to throw some decent looking wheels on while keeping the impact to MPG at a minimum. After doing some research a 205/40r18 is almost the same exact diameter as my '07 Touring 195/55r16. Keeping with a 205 would also minimize the impact to rolling resistance. Michelin offers a great all-season tire in this size as well.

    Has anyone had any experience with this size?..any thoughts?

    Seems like there are some decent lightweight wheel options in 18", with most <18-19lbs. Is there a particular offset that I should be looking at?

    Just picked up a set of Motegi Racing SP10s on Amazon for $600 shipped (18x8 in Hyper Black). With an 8" wheel I'll likely go with a 215/40 tire instead of the 205/40. Seems like others on here have run this wheel without any issues.

    I'm running 215/40's and don't have any issues. Expect a instantaneous loss of 5mpg.

    Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I'll be a little more conscious of my driving style to account for the mpg loss. At is is I'm only averaging about 42-43 on my 50-mile round trip commute.

    Careful with the offset. If the offset is different from OEM, you'll need to repack your bearings more often, depending upon how off the offset is.

    If you're looking for performance upgrades, easiest is to pick up a better set of tires. Dunlop Star Spec (now superseded by the SII) are magnificent tires. More critical in performance is the driver. Go do a couple of track days, preferably when it's drizzling - the improvement in performance in any car you drive will dramatically improve! ;)
