If you come near NY, stop by. I'll install HIDs for you. You are looking at $50 for hardware. Don't worry about labor.

You're thinking in the wrong units of time. The car may only be 3 years old but it has a HUGE amount of running hours on it. One indicator is the a large amount (by my standards) of bulbs he's replaced.

    If he avg's 40mph over 400,000 miles, that's.......

I have not seen Peef lately, but I imagine he cn still be contacted. He is a wizard with the combo meter and was offering very inexpensive repairs. Either that, or grab one out of a totLed car and DIY install. Very straightforward.

I and a bunch of us Priuschatters met pEEf at Green Drive Expo - Bay Area (on 9/17/11). EVSE Upgrade - Products (his business) doesn't currently mention anything about being closed. Sometimes it does.

After my sleep at the rest area, if no poker get home about 11:30, normally go to sleep about 3:30, If poker get home about 3:00 go to sleep. And if i have the strength to make it home, I get home about 5:30am. My sleep in my little prius usually is around 5 hours. UPDATE: 12000 to go. I checked my battery 12.6v, with load 12.2v and with lights on 12.1v My dash went out again this morning will take it to dealer probably monday.

My guess is that a solder joint inside the combination meter has broken, due to 420,000 miles of vibration. The combination meter holds the odometer reading, so there are some interesting implications for this repair. But again, if it is the combination meter itself, then the definitive diagnosis is having to hold the power button down for 3 seconds to turn off the car when the display is blank and, if I recall correctly, cruise control does not work. Otherwise, it may just be the lcd display portion, or you have covered its little window with papers empty coffee cups etc.

If you have a ScanGauge or even just a cheapie scanner, and you can get a speed reading when the display is blank, then it is just the lcd.

If you are bored, you can add some neon lights inside, better sound system, a massage pad, refrig and other toys. Sure the HID as well. By keeping this and save $10000 on a new car every year, you can go to fancy restaurant much more often if that's your choice. Of cause we will be happier to hear your new records every weeks :)

If I were you, when this car finally bye bye, get another Gen2 with high end trim, move your toys in and start over again.

I have read a few pages of this thread and I think you are awesome! Please keep us updated on your mileage every month and whether you are going to get a new model someday. Like the other people have said, I think Toyota would be interested in your car if it becomes the highest mileage Prius in the world. In fact, I think they should publish a study of long term use of hybrid batteries and the long term costs so that people are more aware of how far the Prius can go before having to perform maintenance.

Of course, the dealers will always try to get you to fix something before it's broken. I try to wait until I feel like something is wrong before I do a recommended repair. Especially if their repair estimates are more than what I paid for the car!

Went to dealer car not covered, priced a combo meter, $371.00 any options, they dont know what the problem is and to check min $90, dont like to be under the mercy of a dealer, especially when its electrical. Also how long can prius be driven without the dash lit up. The original price showed $800. Also dont know what the labor will be.

Note, the combination meter contains the odometer, so if you replace it yourself, it will read whatever is on it,whether it is 000000 for brand new or xxxxxx if it comes out of a wreck. Try Eric at Adopt-A-Part in Colorado for one from a wreck. Try pEEF for programming.

I think your battery could go 1 million miles. Flat freeway cruising is the least amount of stress possible on it. Good luck!

It finally came on this morning so I had to take a pic. When I leave for work I dont shut it off until I get home, if I go in the store I use the key to lock the doors, anyway just weighing wether dealer or take it out my self (DIY 100.00 Dealer 800.00) Im just a little nervous If anyone has taken it out how long and what risks are there. Thanks.
